Too Young To Die (DVD) ... year old Amanda Sue Bradley has had a difficult childhood, having been abused by her step-father and neglected by her mother, but thinks she can put all that behind her when her boyfriend asks her to marry him. Taxidermia (DVD) ... is a little gem from Hungary, Pálfi sure really knows how to direct his grotesque tales and can create the right reaction he expected from us. Why is this a fantastic film? Is it because since it s international to me, therefore I like it? No, this is not so. I loved this film because it stands on its own merits of good acting, the plot is rather original as it is nothing like I have ever seen in all my life, a perspective into Eastern Europe which again, not seen before. Closer (DVD) ... is it with the media and some films? They latch onto a single element and then seem unable to see past that to whether a film is any good or not. In Closer s case, there were actually two things they latched onto. The tabloids rather liked the fact that Natalie Portman plays a stripper and spends part of the film parading around in little more than a thong, whilst the "higher brow" sections got rather hung up on the amount of bad language the film contains. Which is a shame because, having finally got around to watching it, Closer deserves better. A complex story of love and relationships, it has a very dark hear and proves to be compulsive viewing.
