During one particularly sparse shift at the library, my colleague and I were browsing the film racks to recommend films to each other as we'd both finished our work and due to it being the Christmas period and freezing cold, we hadn't had any customers for an hour! I noticed 'Drillbit Taylor' on the shelf and asked her if she had seen it and she said no. However, I am a big fan of Owen Wilson and decided that based solely on him being in it, I was going to give it a whirl. I had loved him in 'You, Me and Dupree' (see review!) and I hoped he wouldn't disappoint in this outing. Wade and Ryan aren't particularly looking forward to their first day at high school. ... One of the hardest things you have to do as a kid is go to High School and for Wade and Ryan things are even harder for them as they come under the American high school term of Nerds. It doesn't end there though and when Wade stands up Jim he automatically turns the high school bullies attention to him and Ryan as well. To try and protect themselves they try to hire a bodyguard, but with only $83 dollars between them, the best they can do is Drillbit Taylor (Owen Wilson), an out of work bum who manages to trick the kids into thinking he's a high profile bodyguard. Now Taylor has to protect the kids from the bullies and avoid his true identity being found ... Read the complete review

This film is classic Owen Wilson at this best. I think that he plays a Walter Mitty type character very well. For those of you too young to remember Walter Mitty, this was a character played by Danny Kaye, a loveable loser who invented stories about himself to make him more attractive and interesting. This is exactly the type of character that Drillbit Taylor is, although perhaps a bit more seedy. The film is about 3 young nerds who attract the attention of the school bully (who is also a bit of a psychopath). The bully gets so bad that they decide to hire protection and interview a few for the job. The select Drillbit as the likely candidate, mainley ... Read the complete review

Drillbit Taylor is the 2008 comedy starring Owen Wilson, as well as an sable cast of young kids, you are not yet really known, however one of the kids is the main boy in the Ring, yes you no which boy I am talking about, the creepy, weird looking one. Now my first encounter with this film was when I ordered it office box office, it was a boring Friday night, back from work and nothing to do. I flicked through the pap per view channels and the trailer for this film just looked funny and fresh. I am a huge comedy film fan, and I have often liked most of Owen Wilson's movies and thus I thought why not give it a go and watch it, and I have to admit I was pleased by this ... Drillbit Taylor is another hilarious film from Owen Wilson. It centres around the story of three young boys, and Drillbit, a tramp who sees an opportunity to make a bit of money and so pretends to be a martial arts expert. The boys hire Drillbit as their bodyguard, to protect them from bulies at school. After Drillbit repeatedly lets the boys down and fails to turn up when they need him, Drillbit decides to finally help them and teaches them ways of standing up to the bullies on their own. The boys then find out that Drillbit is not who he says he is, and they fire him. After a fight at a party, the film ends with Drillbit in prison, but all turns out well ... Read the complete review
