~Background~ Dungeons and dragons is a paper and dice RPG game that has stretched over 3 decades. Often seen as a 'geek' thing, due to often referenced in the media, it is played by people you wouldn't think geekish at all, for example, the actor, Vin Diesel! Many writers have drawn best selling novels from playing the game, most prominently RL Salvadore. The game has such a big cult following, references can still be found in modern PC RPG games. With such a history in the game as well as of the game, it was only a matter of time that the sheer imagination would leap out of the writings of fans and players into the big screen. ~ Film Summary ~ Two ... In his autobiography, Tom Baker reveals how, at the height of his fame in Doctor Who, he would be asked to go to visit dying children in hospital. 'It's the Doctor here' he would say to the child, the parents watching with mute hope that the appearance of their son or daughter's hero would bring about some sort of miracle. It never worked. And now, twenty years later, a curly-haired but greying Baker sits at the bedside of a young man in an attempt to heal him. Except he now seems to be in Star Trek, as he's got Spock ears. He holds the hand of the young thief Ridley, and the whole audience takes on the parental role, hoping against hope ... Read the complete review

Many teenage boys around the world have found that they enjoy the worlds created by such classics as ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘Lord of the Rings’. Several board games were produced to give the reader a chance to experience the world; but the best way to experience these fantasy worlds are to live them. For the last fifteen to twenty years millions of people around the world have been rolling dice, fighting dragons, killing wizards and generally having a laugh and a good time; this is called role-playing. One of the most important and popular role-playing games of them all is Dungeons and Dragons. Several other good systems exist; Tunnels and ... Read the complete review

Dungeons and dragons is a film aimed at children, and as a children's film, it works quite well. The problem is that most AD&D game players, (or Dungeons and Dragons as they have reverted to calling it for the third edition) is complicated. Far too complicated for anyone under the age of twelve. Most players are in their teens or twenties. Role Playing tends to be a bit on the dark side, especially with older players, as politics, violence and evil must all be contended with. I have played through some very ahrowign game sequences, and the AD&D rules certainly lend themselves to this sort of thing. Of course, you can play it as a lighthearted romp, ... I've been known to roleplay in the past. I've been known to drool over some rather tasty looking men too. I love a good chuckle, I love a 'good' bad guy, I love dragons, I love fantasy, and I love romance. Yeah yeah yeah, I'm a woman, of course I love romance. If I was that way inclined I'd leave the op just as that one little paragraph, but I know I wouldn't get away with it. I'm a rambler, and as such who am I to disappoint my friends? But that one little paragraph is exactly what this film is. I hadn't intended to go and see this movie, and I probably wouldn't have bothered if it wasn't for a friend ... Read the complete review
