Advantages: True cult classic, Great soundtrack, Fantastic performances
Disadvantages: A bit too trippy for some!
'Easy Rider' clearly deserves to be classed as a classic, providing a valuable glimpse into the values and ideals of its era. The film takes us on a journey across parts of America with Fonda and Hopper by motorbike and we encounter with them many extremes of their society. Some of the scenery is amazing and some of the attitudes they encounter, particularly after Nicholson has joined them, will make your blood boil! The violence is disturbing, made moreso by the drug induced haze which pervades for much of the time. Outstanding performances from Fonda, Hopper and Nicholson gel the movie together and you cannot help but yearn for a similar taste of freedom. Not only is it a fantastic road movie with what can only be described as downright SEXY bikes, but also a comment by the youth of the day on the violent prejudices which existed not only then but continue to this day. The soundtrack, featuring acts including the Byrds and Steppenwolf, provides more than just background music, it enhances the whole feel of the film. So sit back, relax and prepare for what was truly the TRIP of an era.
