*This applies to the full uncut version of the film* Shelia's (Janet Agren) sister has gone missing, she has ran off to South America to join a weird religious cult with a freaky leader Jonas(Ivan Rassimov). So Shelia asks Mark Butler (Robert Kerman, also in cannibal holocaust)who fought in Vietnam to help her relocate and rescue her sister Diane. They set off but on the way a crocodile makes a meal of one of the guides and they are forced travel on foot. Whilst on foot they meet a local cannibal tribe and soon only Shelia and Mark are left as their other guide makes a meal for the cannibals. The get to the cult and find out that Jonas not only brainwashes his followers but drug people and rapes the women in the cult. They decide not to stick around for long so they get Dianne and are hepled by another member, Mowara they escape. However Dianne and Mowara meet the cannibal tribe and are slowly eaten alive(hence the title) and now Mark and Shelia have to escape alone.

Directed by Umberto Lenzi also directed Cannibal Ferox this is now way as good as Cannibal Holocaust and is an explotation flick in ever sense. This film is just really a vehicle for animal cruelty and really crappy effects with buckets of blood. This film is really cheap and is reflected in almost every element of the film (although cheaply made films aren't a bad thing it is when they are really crappy and the film suffers becuase of the restricted budget is when it is bad). The mood of the film is not depressing like Cannibal Holocaust it is more like that of a cheesy b movie. The animal cruelty I think in some elements is worse than Cannibal Holocaust, although doesn't get as sick as the turtle killing we get iguanas and crocodiles being killed for the sake of entertainment. Also the New York scenes are funny, especially the opening and the music is really bad. I haven't seen the british cut version yet but I suspect that there will be no animal cruelty and the violence and
rape will be tonned down. Thsi like Cannibal Holocaust, Cannibal Ferox and other films like this will never be uncut in this country.
