Advantages: Laughter! What more do you need?

Disadvantages: He looks better than any other bloke would in a dress

I'm a dog. I dont know!

Eddie Izzard is with no shadow of a doubt one of the best comedians we have. An incredibly intelligent man whose knowledge of the world and it's history can only be admired.

This 1 of his 5 current videos available on the market, Glorious, Dress to Kill, Definite Article and Eddie Izzard Live at the Ambassadors are the other 4. It is by no means the best of the collection, but undoubtedly the work of pure comedic genius anyway. I wish all four could somehow be melded together to make a seven hour show that I listen to on long car journeys.

Izzards' talent to turn the everyday mundane into a world of complete surrealism never fails to amuse. He talks wildly about his subject matter with complete understanding that you cannot possibly fail to comprehend exactly where the thought process is coming from.

Ever ready to admit when something hasn't worked, Izzard's style and delivery add to the charm and humour of his routines. I have only met one person who cannot be persuaded to admit that Eddie Izzard is the funniest man of our time (closely followed by Alan Davis), the 2nd person I have now managed to convert to the Eddie way of thinking.

If you haven't watched any of Eddie Izzard's videos before, or have never seen him perform, you really should. He was a complte pioneer in the world of comedy who turned around stand-up. Many other comedians adopted a very similar style of improvising - he has a few topics he knows he's going to talk about, but doesn't really know what he's going to say.

You may not like his style, his stammering and stumbling delivery, but I refuse to think that you will not find his stories hilariously funny.

From Greek mythology, supermarket shopping, old ladies and their hairnets, why we buy fruit, the difference between cats and dogs, wasps and bees, the beginning of time, new settings for the Star Trek St
un Guns and every other conceivable thought you may have had at one time in your life - Eddie pretty much covers everything over the four videos.

The first time I watched Eddie Izzard perform was in a Hysteria concert about eleven or twelve years ago. He told a story about being brought up by a pack of wolves. His name was Grrrrrr. From that moment on I was hooked. Over the years he has just got better and better and his routines stronger and funnier.

Yes, he is a bloke in a dress. Yes he paints his nails. Yes he openly admits to being a TV. (Not the electrical sort with pictures!) And if you have a problem with that I suggest you stick to Chubby Brown. But you are missing out on something very special.

Buy them, watch them. Have a break. Then watch them again. This is one video that is not Unrepeatable!
