Glorious was the first Eddie Izzard show I ever watched. It was shown on Channel 4 a long time ago and I found it immensely funny. I have recently bought the box set of Eddies Videos but this one still remains my favourite, shining out in comparison with all of the others. Glorious was released on video in 1997. This show tells a story of religion, including sketches about Noah and his Ark, the creation of the world, and many other immensely funny tales based on the stories in the bible. For those who have not come across Eddie and his humour before, I will try and give you a taste, as best I can; but before I do this I would like to share with you a little ... Eddie Izzard is a stand-up comical genius in my book, and I own all his DVD's and have been to see his show once in Newcastle a few years back. I don't think there is anyone who could perform a stand-up routine quite the way he does and I find him side-splittingly funny. His comedy style has been described as 'rambling, whimsical monologue and self-referential pantomime'. Born in 1962 in Yemen, Eddie's family moved to Northern Ireland shortly afterwards, and remained there until Eddie was 5, before moving to England. Eddie's mother died from cancer when he was only 6 years old, and he states his desperation for affection following this is how he ended up ... Read the complete review

This is Eddie Izzard at his funniest, before he went all Hollywood and started appearing in films that aren't very good and getting too big for his high heels (if you haven't experienced Izzard before, he is a cross dressing comedian!). In Glorious, Eddie Izzard discusses many topics but mainly focuses on religion and inparticular early christianity and history, now this may sound like the worst topic ever for a comedy show, but rest assured that Izzard turns these subjects into a hilarious hour long show! Izzards style is what you'd descirbe as 'Marmite' (i.e you love it or hate it), he uses a lot of mime, refers alot to cinema, relies on you ... Read the complete review

'I like my like my women like I like my coffee... In a plastic cup...' James Mason and Sean Connery are two of the big 'stars' that pop up in cameos in this DVD. Of course if you know your Izzard then you'll know these are just two of his many impressions that he does on stage. In this DVD the James Mason impression plays God while Sean plays Noah, in the 'etch-a-sketch end of the world' that was the flood; followed later by Jesus preaching to the dinosaurs. Eddie is one of the best comedians around and in this DVD he really shows off all his comic talents. Whether you love his jokes or if you find his faces funny when he's becoming an ... In Glorious Izzard manages to blend comedy about the big things in life - creation, the bible, with some of the minutest details. The comedy is grand and surreal and minutely observational at the same time. This is Eddie Izzard at his peak. He covers the bible - people with long beards, blending them in with Sean Connery, Speedboats, James Mason and baboons fighting each other. He talks about showers and toasters and the inability to ever find the right settings (toast is either not cooked or burnt, showers are either freezing or scalding) He talks about the Robin Hood legend, and the nottingham twang that always turns into an american ...
