Frighteningly Real (Eden Lake (DVD))

Advantages: Chilling to the bone horror Disadvantages: Stereotypical good guy / bad guy This film angered me almost more than it scared me. I think it reflected pretty well how now a days, some teenagers seem to think that they run the place, and in fact forget that they are children. I know that not all teenagers are like this, and I hope you don't think I'm tarring them all with the same brush, because I'm not. I just think that this was more than a horror film, it was quite political. I think it portrayed knife crime perfectly, as these kids who are using the knives on the street, use them as freely as those in the film - seeing knives more as a way of showing off to your friends and looking "cool", rather than understanding that they are actual leathal weapons. This film really stirred up a debate in my house after watching it, and it was quite interesting how we all percieved it. I do agree with a previous review that it was too stereotypical in that it was a middle class couple being terrorised by poorer, working class children, I don't think that was very fair. All in all, I loved this film, it certainly chilled me to the bone! Summary: A thought provoking horror - a rare find! |
