Yeah, yeah, yeah - 'The Truman Show' Take II is how this film is bound to be described by the majority of reviewers, but for my money this is a very much more interesting and useful contribution to our lives than Jim Carrey's over hyped turkey ever could be. It's low on stars (with Woody Harrelson, Liz Hurley, Dennis Hopper and Martin 'Mission Impossible TV' Landau being among the people you will have heard of, and they only get cameo appearances here), but none the poorer for that and is actually quite a thought provoking and at the same time funny little piece. Matthew McConaughey is the unknown lead who carries the premise off ... Read the complete review

EdTV is supposed to be a bit like The Truman Show, but I’ve never watched The Truman Show (although it is on my list of ‘too watch’ videos) so I couldn’t really comment on that one, although I should think it follows the same basic plot. So, if you liked The Truman Show, EdTV might be one you should watch, and vice versa! Dooyoo don’t have a category for EdTV, only EdTV DVD collectors edition, which kinda explains why this opinion has been stuck in this category, I have however asked dooyoo to add the category, so hopefully this will be moved there once it’s up! When that will be though I really don’t know! EdTV ... Read the complete review

***** Please note that this opinion is not specifically about the DVD version of EDtv - I saw the movie on Sky last night and couldn't find an entry for the movie on dooyoo except this one. ***** The general public seem to be subjected to more and more 'reality TV' shows every day, and this trend has spilled over into movies, although these have been fictionalised versions. The latest one that I have heard of is SERIES 7 - THE CONTENDERS, and perhaps the most famous was THE TRUMAN SHOW, and EDtv is a lesser-known film in the same vein. The movie stars Matthew McConaughey as Ed Pekurny, a video store clerk who agrees to let ... Read the complete review

This film is an almost perfect example of what TV is gradually becoming in our lives. With the extension of all these Big Brother-esque Shows appearing on TV both in the Uk and abroad. In the film an American Channel called True TV takes the next logical step. Film one chosen star all through the day (he is allowed to sleep sans cameras) for...basically ever. On first seeing this film advertised I was concerned that it was merely jumping on a band waggon that the Truman show had started (in much the same way of Armageddon and Deep Impact). It was however a compeltely different film not limited to the fact that Ed knows he is being filmed wheras Truman does not. ... Read the complete review

who has a camera crew following him during his waking hours! But this is no Truman Show ripoff, as Ed actually knows they're there, and he's getting paid for the intrusion! Of course, this has serious effects of his personal life, especially since he's realised that he fancies his brother's girlfriend, and the camera's are watching all of this. pretty soon, he's alienating his family and friends, and getting approached by opportunistic women who are trying to launch their film careers! The R2 DVD has a fair wodge of extras, and lots of good stuff in there. This includes two commentaries, the obligatory making of featurette, ... Read the complete review
