Advantages: Matthew Broderick. Very very funny.

Disadvantages: Blockbuster

Starring Matthew 'Ferris' Broderick and a very perky Reese Witherspoon, this is a little gem. I don't think it got the audience it deserved at the cinema, but it's now available to rent (worth a ridiculously expensive £3.50 - shame on you evil all-conquering Blockbuster).

This very funny film tells the story of a high school election (yes, it does what it says on the tin). Reese Witherspoon is Tracy Flick - perfectly embodying all those people you hated at school. She is irritatingly perfect and exuberant as the girl who cheats her way towards the presidency of her high school.

Broderick is superb as a man whose life is spinning out of control. His wife's obsession with getting pregnant sends him into a misguided affair with one of their best friends. He finds he cannot let Tracy stand for the position uncontested and persuades the high school jock to stand. Events start to spin out of control when his lesbian sister decides to stand as well through jealousy.

Anyway, I'll not give away anymore of the plot, but I will say that this will make you laugh out loud and snigger a lot. Not that sniggering is an attractive trait, but never mind. Rent it as soon as you can. Preferably from an independent video chain and not the evil Blockbuster who require more identity checks than the passport office. Mind you, that's another opinion to write!!
