Elf

This is not just your average Christmas movie. Not even your average Elf movie. This movie is a sensationally funny, hilarious, sweet comedy starring none other than the great comedian Will Ferrell.

The dvd
The movie Elf came on DVD November 16, 2004. It is rated PG and runs 97 minutes. It is in widescreen.
Plot

Poor Buddy. He ends up in an orphanage all alone and then climbs into Santa's bag and gets raised by an elf and the North Pole. Well, maybe he shouldn't be pitied too much. He lives his life tinkering toys and trying to fit in. And who wouldn't want to live with Santa Claus all year? In this heartwarming movie, Will Ferrell plays Buddy who at the beginning of the movie does not know he is a human. He thinks he is an elf. A six foot elf. Finding out he is adopted and setting out to discover who his father is brings Buddy to a magical place he never knew existed before. Follow Buddy on his quest to find himself. You will laugh and laugh at this inspirational yet unique story.
Opinion

Before I give you my opinion of this movie, I have to admit that I love stupid, funny movies. I mean, I love Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre, Anchorman, Old School, Kicking and Screaming, Semi Pro, Bench Warmers, What about Bob and Borat. These, among many others (some are too stupidly embarrassing to name) are what make me laugh, smile and just plain make me happy. That's what the movie ELF does for me. It makes me happy- every time I watch it.
Now with that said, I hope you go into this movie with an open mind. Will Ferrell is personally my favorite actor but I know a lot of people don't really like him. If you are one of the people that do not like him, please don't run away from this movie. You will still enjoy it. Why, you ask? Well...mainly because it's not just a funny movie, its a sweet movie. It's a movie about finding yourself. It's a movie about being OK with who you are. Being yourself no matter what. That's why it's so great.
Too many people in society are just trying to fit in and changing themselves to fit the mold. Many of us are whoever we are with. We change depending on who we are talking to. Buddy never does this- not even once in the movie. He is an elf. He was raised at the North Pole. He never changes who he is inside. He may change into a suit and regular clothes for a few minutes in the movie but he still acts the same. He doesn't lie, either. When his boss says there is no singing at the North Pole, he tells him "Yes there is." He will not agree just to fit in. I love that about this movie. This is how I hope and dream my children will be like as they get older. Be yourself no matter what. Very important. Always remember where you came from.
My favorite line: "I just like to smile, smiling's my favorite."-Buddy the Elf
