Advantages: So, so so Christmasy.
Oh how I adore this film. I love it. It is so very Christmasy and that is why I love it.
Will Ferrell plays the role of Buddy the Elf and he plays the part amazingly well. He was in an orphange and crawled into Santa's sack whilst he was delivering presents on Christmas Eve. Upon arriving back home at the North Pole the baby is discovered and he is given to Papa Elf who raises him as an elf. Unbeknown to Buddy he is of course human and not an elf and it is here the comedy begins. We see Buddy crammed into places and furniture which is teeny and elf sized whereas he is big and human sized.
After Buddy's failed toy making attempts Papa Elf decides it is time he knew the truth. When he finds out his real father is on the Naughty list Buddy makes his way to New York to meet him and get him to change his ways.
After a long journey from the North Pole to New York, Buddy tries to find his dad, on his way we see him entering a run down coffee shop which claims to have the worlds best coffee, Buddy takes this littarelly and this is where his child like elfness is really shown. He has no idea about what to expect in the real world as he is so used to being in the North Pole and at Santa's workshop.
He finds his dad who get's security to remove him, now bear in mind Buddy is still dressed like an elf, they tell him to get back to Gimbles. They assume he is working there and he does as he is told and does head to Gimbles. He does actually end up working here and makes the most fabulous Christmas display through the night.
He tries to get his fathers attention many times throughout this part of the film.
It is here he meets a girl.... ahhhh.
He overhears her singing in the shower and goes in and starts to sing with her. Buddy being completely innocent and child like doesn't see this as strange in anyway!
When the security guy at Gimbles announces that Santa will be in store tomorrow we see Buddy get very excited and he starts shouting 'Santa, Santa, I know him'!!
Of course the guy means the stores Santa and not the real thing but Buddy has no concept of this idea.
When Buddy discovers that it is indeed an imposter Santa, he and 'Santa' have a huge fight which results in Buddy getting arrested. His father is called and he bails him out.
He decides on getting a DNA test which prooves that Buddy was correct all along. Walter's wife (Walter is Buddy's dad) insists that they must care for Buddy untill he is well.... after all what grown man thinks he is actually an elf?? Unless of course he is an elf!!
Walter has another son Michael who at first does all he can to avoid Buddy until the fantastic snowball fight!!
Walter also takes Buddy to work in the office where he is placed down in the postal area, it is here he get's drunk with a co worker and they have a little drunken dance session.... So funny. As is the bit where Buddy drinks a huge bottle of coke then lets out a massive burp, followed by 'did you hear that'!!
Buddy also messes everything up when he calls a big client an elf when in fact he is actually just a little person. Oh he goes crazy and ends up diving across the table at Buddy who then calls him 'an angry little elf'!
Walter goes a little mad and throws Buddy out.
All together now ahhhhhhhh....
Buddy is wandering around New York when he see's Santa's sleigh crash in Central Park, Buddy races to help and it is here Buddy proves he can do something right.... he set's about fixing the sleigh.... GO BUDDY!!!
Michael shouts at his dad, and we see Walter go in search of Buddy.
To get the Sleigh to fly again a little Christmas magic is needed.
The joy of Christmas needs to be spread ~
The best way to spread Christmas Cheer, is singing loud for all to hear
Jovie (the girl who Buddy likes fro Gimbles) remembers Buddy saying this and she starts to sing and is soon joined by everyone.
Michael steals Santa's book to make people believe, he reads out people's wishes.... Only wishes Santa himself would know!
Jovie sings 'Santa Claus is comin' to town' and as everyone joins in the sleigh picks up speed.... but not enough as someone isn't singing..... Walter!
We see children singing along and even a biker crew!!
The joy of Christmas picks up and soon with a nudge from his wife Walter joins in and we see the sleigh rise up high!
And there is more to this story but I don't want to spoil the ending, for those who have watched it... isn't is fab, for those who haven't......... Watch it asap!!
This is a great film, it is definitely one of my favourites and I just love it when this comes on the telly as it feels so much more like Christmas.

[Whispering to fake Santa] You stink. You smell like beef and cheese! You don't smell like Santa.
[To fake Santa] You sit on a throne of LIES.
^^^^^^These are before the fight!
[Repeated several times throughout movie] First, I went through the seven levels of the Candy Cane Forest... Then, I went past the sea of twirly, swirly gumdrops... And after that: I walked through the Lincoln Tunnel.
I also have some favourite scenes, but reading them isn't the same unless you have watched it and know how they go.
So what ya waiting for???
GO WATCH ELF!!!!!
I just love to cuddle up on the sofa with the kids and settle down to watch this film, it's especially nice when all the Christmas decorations are up and it's very snug. I think this is an ideal film to watch in Christmas Eve! The film just brings out the child like excitement that you feel when your, well a child!!
A brilliant film!!
Summary: My absolute must see Christmas film. And if I could give it more stars I absolutely would!
