A really useful potty training DVD with friendly characters.

This Elmo's potty time DVD is highly recommended on many online parents groups so when it came to potty training my son I thought that this would be a good purchase to go along with buying a potty and a potty book.

I bought this DVD from Amazon where I paid £5.28 and got free super saver delivery. I thought this was a reasonable price to pay for a popular kids DVD, especially with the free postage.
The DVD is available in quite a few places as it seems to be very popular, HMV and Ebay are among the places that have it in stock currently.

The cover of the DVD features a picture of Elmo, a toilet and the Sesame Street logo. It is quite a bright and attractive cover. My son gets excited if I show him the case and ask if he wants to watch Elmo and likes to point out where Elmo is on the case.
The DVD itself looks almost the same as the case (except round of course!)

The DVD stars Elmo, but you do also see a few other Sesame Street actors and puppets. I used to love Sesame Street as a child and my son although having never seen anything of Sesame Street before I bought this DVD seems to have warmed to the characters very quickly.
As well as hearing the characters talk there are also songs. The script is lovely as the characters talk to your child as well as to each other (this is something both my daughter and son have both been amazed with at toddler age) and the songs are happy and fun.

Elmo himself talks about how he already uses the toilet, there is another character who manages their first successful potty attempt during the story and other people come along and remember when Elmo was potty training and when they first used the potty or toilet.
Everything is in language that is at an appropriate level for toddlers and they include many different words that people might use for when they need to go to the toilet rather than just one. The DVD manages to talk about potty training without being pushy, which is great.
The only little thing that does bug me about this DVD is that because it is American they say diaper instead of nappy, which could get confusing for little ones. It would have been nice for them to look at different words for diaper the same as they looked at different words for going to the toilet.

My son isn't big on TV on the whole. He will sometimes sit and watch half of something before toddling off to find something more fun, but this DVD seems to hold his attention very well and he can make it though about half an hour of the 45 minute run time.

My son loved this DVD and he would always quite happily sit on the potty after watching it. Though of course this DVD is not going to instantly going to potty train your child for you it does make using the toilet or potty seem attractive and fun. My son is only 2 and a half now, he potty trained just after his second birthday, we never have accidents in the day and although I can't say that this is down to watching this DVD, I'm pretty sure it helped to make the whole thing a bit easier.

I would recommend this to anyone who is going to be potty training with their toddler as I really do think it's great and I'm yet to hear a bad word about it from anyone
