Advantages: heart-warming, catchy songs

Disadvantages: perhaps for younger audiences, not a great beginning

This film starts off looking like a classic Disney animation, a girl singing surrounded by woodland creatures. It had quite a catchy song but the story line seemed rushed - the premise was set up quite quickly as Giselle (Amy Adams) was sent to the real world - New York - by the evil step mother (Susan Sarandon) and the film became live action. We're also introduced to Robert (Patrick Dempsey), a busy, sensible lawyer with a young daughter.
Although the character of Giselle annoyed me at first, I soon warmed to her after another song, and I realised her over-the-top, sweet, sincere character was perfect to oppose Robert's sensible character, and was also slyly poking fun at Disney's classic heroines. It was funny in parts, and would be especially funny for younger audiences. Although it was obvious where the storyline was going, it did not hinder my enjoyment. Lessons are learnt, catchy songs are sung (especially in Central Park!), and James Marsden as Prince Edward is hilarious with over-blown mannerisms and sweet self-obsession.

Summary: Great parody of classic disneys
