Advantages: Classic fight scenes, Well filmed
Disadvantages: Looking slightly dated, Sadly, Bruce Lee's last film
Knowing that this film has been butchered buy the British censors, I bought the Region 1 version which is fully uncut. For any martial arts fans out there who haven't seen this film yet, it is a masterpiece. Bruce plays martial arts expert who is sent undercover to expose the drug dealing and murder on a small island, owned by Han, off the coast of Hong Kong. He is spurred on by the knowledge that his sister killed herself years earlier after fighting off Han's bodyguard. The only problem is the island is the setting of a martial arts tournament so he has to pretend to be a competitor. As with 99% of all martial arts films it's basically a revenge film. Bruce makes friends with fellow fighters John Saxon and Jim Kelly and the film follows him through the various fights and revelations that the island brings up. Enough of the plot, the fight scenes are really where the the film wins hands down. To this day there haven't been any on screen fights that compare to the speed and agility on display here. Whether it be one on one combat or a mass fight where he defeats about 50 people with a variety of weapons, his skills as both fighter and choreographer are unmatched. The main reason I went for the American version of the film is the inclusion of the infamous nunchaka scene. It may only last a couple of minutes but this one scene has entered into film legend. The film actually had to be slowed down in order for the movement of the nunchakas to register. The extras on the disc are pretty good. You get an audio commentary, an interview with his wife, some rare footage of Bruce practising in his back yard and loads of still photos. If you can, don't bother with the R2 release, get the American disc instead.

- 11/06/01 'Enter The Dragon' has been passed uncut by the BBFC now, so future R2 releases of the film will feature the nunchaku sequences.
Also, you've not given much detail about the quality of the DVD features, which is (after all) the category you've submitted this opinion to. |
