Advantages: Some good kung fu fighting scenes, Bruce Lee!, Good storyline which has inspired many movies since
Disadvantages: Silly final fight scene, Poor acting
Bruce Lee is a legend in the Kung-Fu world and Enter The Dragon is one of his American made movies. This is the review of the uncut 25th Aniversary version of Enter the Dragon which was remastered. Enter the Dragon has a pretty simple plot. Bruce Lee is a martial arts expert who talked into talking part in a dnagerous tournament by the Police. The tournament is organised by Han(played by Shih Kien) a corrupt bad guy who has an underground smuggling operation on his Island. Lee takes part in the tournament with the aim of avenging his sisters death. She killed herself whilst being chased by some of Han's guards. Joining Lee in the tournament is Roper (John Saxon)who is an American rogue who has not much money and is willing to consider doing anything if the price is right. Another actor worth noting is Bob Wall who plays Han's bodyguard (Oharra). I have seen Bob Wall in a few kung fu movies but I cannot remember which ones. Any ideas? With a Bruce Lee movie you expect lots of high energy kung fu scenes and Enter the dragon has it fair share. However because it is an American funded movie lots of the action has been toned down. If you compare this film to some of Lee's previous movies like Fist of Fury and The Big Boss then you will realise that Enter the Dragon is a bit of a disappointment. John Saxton does his best in the kung fu scenes that he has but he certainly doesn't look a natural! Compare him with Bruce Lee who has screen presence and attitude. Lee is probably the best martial arts actors that there has ever been. Some of his films look a little outdated now and it is a great shame that he did not have a longer career. The end fight scene between Lee and Han is also a little bit of a let down. It seems a little stupid that Lee who is at the peak of his career is matched against Han who looks about 50! The only thing that Han does is put serveral different gloves on his artificial hand. Each glove has a sharp weapon which he
uses to attack Lee. The whole end scene felt like Bruce Lee could have finished off Han at any stage. Enter the Dragon is a reasonably entertaining movie. The acting is not great but then again you dont watch a Bruce Lee film for great acting. Compare it to any of his other films and Enter The Dragon is not up to the usual Bruce Lee standards. However this film inspired hundreds of kung fu movies and deserves credit. Overall an entertaining nights viewing!
