Epic Movie (DVD) ... Willard, Mary Castro, Jennifer Coolidge ... / DVD released 2007-06-11 at 20th CENTURY FOX HOME ENTERTAINMENT / Features of the DVD: Anamorphic, PAL / From Jason Friedberg and Aaron Setzer (DATE MOVIE, SCARY MOVIE) comes this everything-in-the-kitchen-sink, blender-set-to-grind comedy, which pokes fun at big crowd-pleasers like WILLIE WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, CHRONICLES OF NARNIA, SNAKES ON A PLANE, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, X-MEN, NACHO LIBRE, and THE DA VINCI CODE, among others. The loose plot involves a gang of teen orphans whose trip inside Wonka’s candy factory leads them to a Narnia-style wardrobe adventure. Jennifer Coolidge is the evil White Bitch they have to tangle with in this new land, and Fred Willard plays Aslo, the lion. Scene-stealing Crispin Glover plays the Wonka-be, David Carradine breakdances, and the vivacious Carmen Elektra morphs enticingly in her X-MEN-style blue body paint. A bevy of eerie look-alikes pose as Paris Hilton, Anna Paquin, Samuel Jackson, and P Diddy, among others. Of course there’s raunch a-plenty to keep the MTV generation of all ages amused. The jokes come so fast that no one need worry if a gag here falls flat: another one is right behind to jump on its back.

Epic Movie mostly parodies the big "event" blockbuster films of the Summer time, and although it "parodies" a large amount of films, the main "plot" (or whatever this mess is called) revolves around spoofing The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. There's little point describing the plot because it's so inane that you'll j...more

Premium Review Epic Movie (DVD): An Epic Disaster (691 words)

I don't know what I was thinking but there was a morbid curiosity that came over me. No I hadn't just been handed a snuff film, instead I added Epic Movie to my rental queue. Yes that's right after being burned by the abomination that is Date Movie, I still felt it my duty to witness another cinema car crash. All I can say is that I've taken one for the dooyoo team, it was the only way to save you, the reader from suffering this terrible fate. Epic Movie is from the same team that brought you Date Movie, a film so bad that even Ed Wood was rolling in his grave. But I don't how they done it but they've managed to make another that is actually ...  Read the complete review

note: also appears in part on Flixster and The Student Room Observing the box office statistics of Epic Movie is a horrifying thing. The film had a ridiculous budget of $20 million, and somehow manages to gross $86m worldwide, not only a considerable profit margin, but an assurance that even more films of this sort are going to be made. People rag on Uwe Boll all of the time for his dire films, but at least his dire films aren't huge money spinners and they are a lot more tolerable than the output of Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, which also includes Date Movie, Meet the Spartans and Disaster Movie. Why did the chicken cross the road? Because it had absolutely nothing better to do. In a way, that sums up my feelings after wasting my time in seeing the parody movie called "Epic Movie" on TV tonight. Now, of course I already knew this wouldn't be a good movie, but I guess there's a little masochist living inside me that wants to test me at times. And boy did the movie not disappoint me. It was gawd awful in ways that I didn't even know was possible. For one, the acting was horrible. Clearly the actors were just reading straight from a teleprompter and goofing off with each other instead of bothering to exert any actual effort into what they were ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Utter Sh*te (603 words)

When I saw the trailer for this film I thought that I would enjoy it purely because it looked so awful. But this film goes way beyond "so bad it's good". It is truly one of the worst films I have ever seen. In fact one of the worst things about it is, it's just plain boring. Even the worst of movies are funny due to the bad acting, awful dialogue and microphones appearing from the top of the screen, but even this film doesn't have the grace to amuse us with some cack handed amateurism. The film is about 4 orphans who all get brown tickets (brown, not gold , brown, get it? Brown's the colour of.... Oh never mind) and they go to Wally Wanka's (Ha ...  Read the complete review
