Advantages: Dragons!

Disadvantages: Not enough imagination

It's all been done before, only much better. If you've seen Lord Of The Rings you've already seen this sort of thing a hundred times better. It's not rubbish, far from it. It just doesn't do anything new or exciting with the idea. The script, the characters, the acting - it's all a bit cliched. There isn't really that much imagination gone into it. Whereas LOTR was full of inventive action scenes, brilliantly interesting characters and was generally choc-full of imaginative ideas, Eragon falls kinda flat. There is really nothing in terms of plot, which isn't something that usually bothers me with movies, but I couldn't help feel it was yet another uninspired aspect to the film. I'm not a huge fan of talking dragons either - I find that sort of thing should mostly be kept in Disney type films. A fantasy film such as this is better without, in my opinion. That said, I did feel it was done well enough and it didn't really deter from the movie at all. The action scenes were generally average and I found it a little difficult to follow the fighting at times. And I wasn't a huge fan of the costumes either. Believe it or not though, I did enjoy it overall. It wasn't as good as it could have been by a long shot, but it was still entertaining. Unfortunately, I can't really say I recommend it highly - it certainly won't make it to my DVD collection like I thought it might. But nevermind. I have LOTR afterall :)
