Evolution is the new film by Ivan Reitman?s (Ghostbusters). Billed as a sci fi comedy in the same mould as ghostbusters I thought I would give the film a viewing last night. Evolution received mixed reviews at the cinema so I decided to give it a miss on the big screen.

The storyline to Evolution is pretty simple really. Dr Harry Block (Orlando Jones)stumbles across a meteorite and finds more than he bargained for. The object from the sky is infact a living organism which evolves at lighting speed. Helped by Dr Ira Kane (David Duchovny) the pair try and find out information about the organism and do some private tests. In the mean time the government find out about the incident and take over the site of the organism and ban the pair from carrying on their test. Allison Reed (Julianne Moore) is one of the government scientists who at first seems to dislike Kane and Block but as time goes by she realises that they seem to know what they are talking about. Also starring in the film is Sean William Scott who plays Wayne Green as wannabe fireman. Green is the first person to spot the meteorite and gets involved later in the movie. The film turns into a Ghostbusters type movie when the organisms escape and run riot in the nearby town.

I was expecting so much more from this film. I was hoping for plenty of laughs and some good special effects. The special effects are pretty decent but apart from a few moments there are very few. Infact most of the laughs were shown in the trailer. The storyline is pretty basic and the ending has to been seen to be believed.

The character development is also pretty lame. I found some of the characters pretty boring and Duchovny's character was too close to the one he plays in X Files. The film deals with quite a complex topic but the characters didnt convince me that they knew what they were talking about.

I wish I could report something good about this movie but sadly I cannot. I was expecting so
mething better from Reitman but ended up being disappointed. The film had potential to do well but turned out to be a huge let down.

The dvd is even worse - if Orlando Jones gets on your tits in the film, just don't bother to go through his "hilarious" hosting of the behind the scenes action. If you were a 12 year old boy then I think this movie is perfect for youo but if you want clever comedy, rent a Monty Python.
