Advantages: Good Suspense, Good Script, Keeps you guessing

Disadvantages: Subtitles (Japanese Version), Story Line hidden for a long period

Please note that this review refers to the Japanese version of the film. I understand an English version has been released since

When I try to write a review I try to view it from an overall perspective and not just one based on my own opinions.
Sometimes it is easy to say a film is good or bad, but the question is, is it bad for everyone? I mean, you might not like a film like The Piano, in fact your taste might be more along the lines of Die hard or XXX however some people do prefer films like piano, and it is at that point you have to ask is this film likeable by those people? Because of course The piano will not be liked by people who don?t like those sorts of films.

Anyway I digress, on to my review about The Eye.

The first thing to strike you about this film is that it is in a foreign language, Thai to be precise, at least I am sure that is what it is. There are subtitles though which helps of course. However naturally this does take away some of the enjoyment to the film as you will be constantly looking at the subtitles rather than the film itself. This, though, is where most of the criticism ends.

This is really a unique film in its own right. Some reviews have said it takes after films like Sixth Sense, but I beg to differ.
The mood this film captures is unique, there is more of a tense feeling to this unfolding drama. One that sixth sense can only just match, although I do prefer sixth sense from a personal standpoint overall.

From the start you notice that someone has gone to great lengths to make you feel on edge and the scary parts have been done in a non cheesy way, which is always helpful.

Are there any jumpy parts? Not many, but they exist, and more so than most western movie makers attempts on modern day horror movies.

The film only produces its aim and point three quarters of the way through the film, and its worth waiting for. (Watch it for yourself, I am not telling you wh
at it is). Although this might sound typical of a badly written script, you can actually forgive the director, this time, for the rest of the film actually keeps you well enough engrossed for you not to even realise you care until the story line actually comes into play.

As an overview, this film is well worth seeing and is a great attempt at a horror flick by a country who usually produces the cheesiest of cheesy horror movies.
In fact it surpasses many horror flicks from the west, not always an easy task. The Eye though is not the best in the world, but it works, and despite the subtitles you will be happy to say you watched it.

My reviews are not a complete overview of every aspect of any movie or product that I take the time to compile. They tend to be just enough to let you know whether the product or movie will be worth your hard earned spare time. And thats important.

Good op although as Chey pointed out a bit about the actual plot would be useful.

Decent opinion, and I see where you're coming from in not wanting to give too much away, but a bit about the actual plot or performances would have been good. I think you may have been thinking of 'Ring' at the start of your review - an American version of that film came out not so long ago.
