If Ewan McGregor were a racehorse we would have been gumming down envelopes with him right now, but as a crap Scottish actor we keep letting him carry on embarrassing the British acting profession. Here he is yet again in a movie which falls at the first and simplest of hurdles to leap...the one marked ?entertainment?. Even the dumbest of low budget movies can be ?entertaining? in some small way but McGregor seems to be a name you can use to distinguish whether a movie sucks or not without even reading the reviews. It is an uncanny knack he has for picking the awful and the bloody awful roles out there in movies which are a little smelly to say the least. He was OK in ... Read the complete review

Open your eyes, give your brains some spring cleaning and then rent this film again. For were you three reputable dooyooers really watching the same film as me? If so, then so many years of being fed "Star Trek", "Star Wars" and "Forrest Gump" must have done your intellectual functions some permanent harm. "Eye of the Beholder" was one of the most entertaining, cleverly-written, well-directed, beautifully-photographed, mystically-acted and melodically-scored films of the last few years. It gripped me right from the opening credits and never let go. The screenplay was crisp and only included as much dialogue as was needed to further ... Read the complete review

If you have to watch this film - please do it in the comfort of your living room, at least you will be able to hit the pause button and have a break to have a cup of tea. I felt compelled to watch this because it starred my favourite actress (Ashley Judd) and one of my favourite actors (Ewan McGregor). All in all their acting was quite good, what this film lacked was a strong storyline and any direction. Instead of providing us with 5-10 minutes of introduction to the characters, it goes straight into the 'story', also the ending is very strange and devoid of any tension or excitement. I couldn't help thinking that this story could have been so ... Read the complete review

It took six months for Eye of the Beholder to reach Britain and with next to no publicity, that meant it could either be an intriguing curio or a film so bad, no-one could bother endorsing it. Alas, it falls into the latter camp and anyone paying to see this turkey will feel very short changed by the time the closing credits roll. Australian writer/director Stephan Elliott made a big impact in the early Nineties with his smash hit Priscilla Queen of the Desert and the thought of him turning his hand from gay road movie to serial killer thriller was not an altogether horrific prospect. The fact that it also starred Ewan McGregor and the far from ... Read the complete review

When Stephen Elliott made Priscilla, Queen of the Desert in 1994, it looked like he had a long and inspiring future in front of him. That was a surprise hit which has sustained enormous popularity and acclaim through the intervening years - it was witty and inventive and extremely funny. However, if Eye of the Beholder is anything to go by, it looks like Mr Elliott has only one burning star in his firmament and will spend the rest of his days churning out pretty dull films. Now perhaps I'm being a touch on the unfair side because a large part of the reason why I don't much like this film is Ewan McGregor. The megastar was pretty damn wonderful ...
