Advantages: I haven't tired of seeing it yet
Disadvantages: Can't think of one - unless your a chick flick phobe
I first saw this film on a plane coming back from America so I heard about 50% of it with the back ground noise, the bloke next to me kept laughing at it - I resolved to watch it again on my return and see if I hear it aswell. I do not own many DVDs but I do own this now. I think the story it represents is evident in our lives today as children do stay at home longer with their parents.
Yes it would fall into the chick flick category, but it is easily watchable and requires little commitment from the brain save to relax and enjoy.
The central characters are Sarah Jessica Parker (Paula) and Matthew McConaughey as Tripp. So Tripp at 35 is still at home with his parents with no signs of leaving, his parents are at a barbeque with their friends ( a great scene) when it transpires the one couple have hired a professional to lure their son into leaving home.
Tripps parents hire the services of Paula to achieve this goal for them, who has been spurned on in this chosen career after a previous boyfriend faield to move out from his parents.
Paula lives with Kit an apparentely dark character plagued by the noise of a mockingbird outside her house. Tripp has two close friends Ace (Phillp) and Demo. Ace falls for Kit and bargains a date with her via Paula between these two is a brilliant scene where the mockbird is shot and then resusitated - I cried with laughter.
Anyway back to the main characters Tripp and Paula progress through her step by step programme, but then Tripp decides it time for Paula to meet the parents (a sign for I'm dumping you), tipped off by his Mum she breaks her golden rule and sleeps with a client, they stay together but Ace spots her with another client and discovers the truth (hence how he bargained the date above), he passes the news onto Demo and Demo tells Tripp.
Tripp plans a meal for his parents and Paula and reveals all that he knows about what they planned. Paula is sent packing but of course she's now in love with him and realises he's not a straightforward case as he once had a girlfriend that he was engaged to that died.
The friends and parents conspire to reunite the pair and a happy ending comes right on cue - but isn't that want we want right from our Cinderella days.
Funny scenes abound when Tripp gets bitten by a chipmunk, the mockbird scene, the gunstore scene, the other client and his love of star wars (yes men can be like that), the paintballing - oh and the Dads desire to have a naked room - steal yourself for the end!
Summary: Watchable, entertaining and funny - get a pizza and settle for the night

- 11/06/09 Please don't just tell us everything that happens in a film, it spoils it for anyone who hasn't seen it. |
