Family Guy Presents: Blue Harvest (DVD) ... at 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment / Features of the DVD: PAL / What better way to commemorate Star Wars' 30th anniversary than with this double-length Very Special Episode, a full-scale, awesomely animated spoof that recasts George Lucas's saga with Family Guy's galaxy of characters: Chris (Seth Green) is Luke; Lois (Alex Borstein) is Princess Leia; Peter (Seth McFarlane) is Han Solo, but not, as expected, Jabba the Hut; Brian (Seth, again) is Chewbacca; Quagmire (and again, Seth) is C3PO; Cleveland is R2D2; Herbert, the creepy senior paedophile, is Obi-Wan (both voiced by Mike Henry); and, of course, Stewie (Seth, one more time) is Darth Vader ("My diapers have gone over to the dark side"). Poor Meg is reduced to a cameo as the hideous reptilian creature that haunts the garbage compactor. Blue Harvest is reverently faithful to A New Hope, while engaging in typical Family Guy pop-culture references (everything from old commercials to Doctor Who, Airplane, Dirty Dancing, and Deal or No Deal) and bizarre digressions (the iconic opening crawl detours into an appreciation of a "way naked" Angelina Jolie in Gia). Along for the wild ride are Judd Nelson, who contributes a voice cameo as John Bender for a Breakfast Club gag, Rush Limbaugh railing against futuristic affirmative action on Tatooine talk radio, and Beverly D'Angelo and Chevy Chase as the vacationing Griswolds observing the rebellion from their orbiting station wagon. A Star Wars spoof in 2007 isn't exactly uncharted territory. As Chris Griffin notes in this episode's final moments, Robot Chicken brilliantly did it months earlier (and let us not forget Mel Brooks's Spaceballs from 1987; or, on second thought...). But the Force is strong with Family Guy, and who could resist the opportunity to hear the Muzak playing in a Death Star elevator? --Donald Liebenson, Amazon.com

... jokes about Greedo shooting first and the stormtrooper hitting his head should have been like shooting fish in a barrel!? The episode has the same problems that so many episodes of Family Guy have: it has some good moments, but is also distended and bloated, with the writers lazily filling time with overly long gags that just drone on and on until they become infuriating. What compounds this is how excellent the Robot Chicken Star Wars episode was by comparison, melding witty references to the films with their own...more

I love star wars, and i really like Family Guy as well. So when i heard about this DVD i was really excited. That was until i heard about the price. For the single disc version it was around £10 brand new, which really isn't worth it for 2 episode (3 if you include the 'bonus' episode which is simple an old one). Thing is i really like getting the special editions of DVD and games, and so i had to get my hands on the box set of this. £20!!!! But once i wrote a few reviews on here it didnt seem as much anymore. Anyways, the feature length episode of Family Guy is basically a comedy spoof of Star Wars Episode 4. There are some really good jokes, and some that i ...  Read the complete review

The two are such a natural fit; it's hard to comprehend why we haven't seen something like this before. "Family Guy"; an animated show that takes the mickey out of everything and anything and sells more DVDs than even "The Simpsons" and "Star Wars"; one of the most iconic of films, constantly spoofed and referenced simply because the franchise has become part of public awareness since the first film was released more than three decades ago. Even if the more recent trilogy wasn't nearly as good as the original one. For those who don't know the series, the show works in true "Family Guy" fashion, being relatively ...  Read the complete review

After years of star wars jokes in many episodes of Family Guy it was decided by Seth McFarlane, the writers and FOX Network that it was about time they did a Family Guy special about Star Wars which they did and called it Blue Harvest. Based on Star Wars 4 (a new hope) or the first film depending on how you look at it, it follows the original plot but as expected Blue Harvest is full of the usual humor that makes Family Guy unique and uses all its many characters to full affect. The roles for each of the main characters is:- Peter Griffin - Han Solo Lois Griffin - Princess Leah Chris Griffin - Luke ...  Read the complete review

I haven't been able to watch Family Guy the same way since South Park done a brilliant episode that actually summed up the show and made you realize the truth. But this aside, this release is nothing more than an extended Family Guy episode shoved on a disc with a star wars marketing angle to sell it, at 45-minutes it's not even feature length despite what some comments made have made out. But is the episode any good? Well it's mildly amusing but basically it's incredibly lazy. It's Star Wars condensed with Family Guy characters taking over the roles. Peter is Han Solo, Lois is Leia, Chris is Luke while Stewie is Darth Vader, the rest of the cast ...  Read the complete review

As a newbie to FAMILY GUY, I've never actually watched a full show, I had seen this about in various stores and felt only a minor amount of interest due mostly to the fact that I am a big STAR WARS fan. When I'm bored, I often go on YOUTUBE and look up witty STAR WARS sketches including those made with LEGO STAR WARS. In the past though, I have often felt quite cheated whilst watching feature-length STAR WARS spoofs aka SPACEBALLS so had poretty much resigned myself to the fact that I probably wasn't missing much by not owning this. Then my mate told me his brother owned it and that he would have no problem lending me this as he wasn't that impressed by it. Figuring that ...  Read the complete review
