********************** Reasons For Purchasing: ********************** Far and away is one of the best drama films I have watched. It certainly is high on my list of best ever films and is one I bought on DVD for my collection as I enjoyed it so much. This film not only takes the cast on a great adventure from Ireland to America in the late 1890's, it also takes us as a viewer there also and what a thoroughly enjoyable trip it is in my opinion. From the very first scene I was hooked to this film and also kept there, focused, right until the final credits rolled. This really is an excellent movie that I have watched many times over the years and ... Read the complete review

Far and away is a film starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman just when they were starting to get together after meeting on Days of Thunder. The film is based on the migration of the Irish to America, this film is set in the 1890 and culminates in the Oklahoma land grab in 1893. The film was directed by Ron Howard and was released in 1992. The film is really a piece of sentimental tosh used as a vehicle for Tom and Nicole, it portrays the lives of the hard working Irish who came over to America to make their fortune. The Irish are portayed as good natured, honest characters who love hard work and enjoy a good crak (all those things are true). Its interesting in ... Read the complete review

Far and Away is a great film that transports the viewer on the brilliant journey from Ireland to America along with the films main characters Joseph and Shannon. Joseph is a poor tenant farmer who after his fathers death feels it is about time that justice was brought to his oppressive landlord, Daniel Christie, and so heads to his house in order to take his revenge. Instead of killing his landlord however like he had planned Joseph is injured and the landlord's wife and servants nurse him back to health. Meanwhile Christie's daughter Shannon is growing tired of the family's traditions and ways and longs to be a modern woman. Whilst Joseph is ... Read the complete review

After meeting on “Days Of Thunder”, this was the movie that ignited the sparks to the flame that became one of Hollywood’s most famous marriages. Set in the late 19th century, Tom Cruise stars as an Irish working class man called Joseph Donnelly, who has watched his family home burn to the ground, killing his father, after they could not afford to pay their rent to the landlord Daniel Christie (Robert Prosky). Thomas vows to seek revenge, and leaves his village to hunt down the arsonists. He is full of good intentions, however he is soon discovered by the landlord when he tries to hide in the stables at the large home of his enemy, who orders ... Read the complete review

Set in 1893, this movie follows the dream of two Oirishmen (and women) in their quest to own their own piece of land. The story starts out in Ireland, where families of farmers are being oppressed by their wealthy landlord. An unintentional accident results in one of the farmers 'being damaged' and subsequently dying (twice) after relaying his message to 'never give up' to his hardworking and dreamy son, Joseph (played by Tom Cruise). During the funeral procession, the landlord's men proceed to burn down the farmer's house without any remorse and condolences to the family. This ignites Joseph's anger and he vows to seek revenge on ... Read the complete review
