Advantages: Exciting and amusing with exquisite performances

Darkly amusing thriller nominated for seven Oscars and winner of two. It is a true story about a luckless car salesman Jerry Lundegaard (perfectly played by William H. Macy), who's idea of getting money from his wealthy but antagonistic father-in-law ends up in a multiple murder case.
Jerry decides to have his own wife Jean (Kristin Rudrüd) kidnapped for a ransom of $80,000, half of which would go to Jerry. The other half would be received by the kidnappers (Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare), along with a car from the leadership.
The plan is that Jerry tells his father-in-law Wade Gustafson (Harve Presnell), that the ransom is $1 million, intending to use the difference to settle his debts. Of course, everything goes wrong...
I enjoyed the character of the pregnant sheriff of Brainerd, Minnesota, Marge Gunderson (fantastic performance by Frances McDormand, winner of Academy Award for Best Actress), who always remains calm, always seems satisfied and appreciates tiny things in life.
I love this film, even though it is not the happiest film with the happiest ending. Still, it relaxes me, it is funny in a certain way, and since the story takes place in North Dakota in the middle of the winter, the constantly present snow gives the film a nice, special effect.
