Although perhaps not as well known as the John Hughes teen films of the 1980s, Fast Times at Ridgemont High is one of the best of the bunch nevertheless. It's a raunchy and sexually charged film but it's also got plenty of chuckles and THAT pool scene involving Phoebe Cates, which is always ranked highly on the "sexiest moments" in cinema. The film revolves around Stacy Hamilton (Jennifer Jason Leigh), a young girl who works in a mall and is jealous of her friend Linda Barrett (Cates), who purports to be so much more mature and experiences. This is a film that American thirty somethings always seem to rave about but I was left wondering why. It might have been a good movie when it was released but it has no plot, FAR too much dialogue (but despite having a lot of dialogue most characters don't seem to have much to say thats useful or relevant) and almost nothing happens for pretty much most of the film. Basically the film follows the lives of students at Ridgemont High as they try to live and learn and survive school - it might not sound like much of a plot but the entire film is hung on that very simple idea.
