I remember reading someone's review title not long ago that said "I want two hours of my life back", and if they hadn't already used that line, then that's what I'd be saying right here. I can't remember the last time I saw a film I disliked as much as this.

The plot is basically that Reese Witherspoon is a young, naive school girl called Nicole falls in love with a wife beater. Mark Whalberg's character, David, is supposed to be this creepy mentalist who lures Nicole into his web then devours her and her family.

Reese is usually a really great actor, but in this film she's annoying and way too damn chirpy. Mark Whalberg is utterly unconvincing as a psychopath, as he comes across as far too warm and loving in the first part of the film to be believeable as a psycho later on.

The appeal of this film is supposed to be the gripping suspense that we're supposed to feel as David goes berserk and tries to ransack Nicole's family. There's nothing clever or thrilling about it though, it's literally a bad actor screaming at a house full of scared people, having recently cut the phone line. What a surprising plot that is, I bet you didn't see that one coming.

The only saving grace of this film is that the RRP is only £5.99, so no-one out there will get cheated out of more than £6 buying this film.

I really hated this film enough to give it just the one star. It's badly acted, really boring, and offers nothing remotely new, exciting or interesting anywhere in the hour and a half it runs for.
