... to follow their dreams and damn the consequences, it is a fantastic film, full of subtlety and understatement. Costner is excellent as the small town man with a big dream whilst the supporting cast to a man are excellent, it will have you yearning to follow your own dreams and really is a touching elegy to love, life, obsession and dreams. I found the film inspirational and it made me think about my own dreams and whether I should follow them or let them go, the use of sport will be relatable for most men, I think t...more

Ray Kinsella is a farmer in Iowa, married to Annie and they have a child, Karin. One day, Ray is in the fields when he hears a voice: "Build it, and he will come." Initially, he thinks he must be dreaming, but the voice comes back to him, along with a vision of a baseball pitch set into part of his land. He becomes convinced that something great will happen and so ploughs one of his fields and turns it into a baseball pitch. Having spent all their savings on the pitch, the Kinsellas are now in deep financial trouble, but when a team of famous baseball players from years ago turn up to play on the pitch, Ray thinks it is all worth it. Then he starts ...  Read the complete review

Field of Dreams is the 1989 film from director Phil Alden Robinson which sends a message about chasing your dreams. Oscar nominated, it has received acclaim both critically and commercially. The Plot Roy Kinsella is a farm owner in Iowa who has a wife, a daughter, a mortgage and survives on his crops. One day, he hears a voice telling him, 'If you build it, he will come!' Thinking he is hearing things, he ignores it, but then hears it again, and has a vision of a baseball field in his crop field. Following his vision, and perhaps his dreams, he builds the field. Premium Review Field of Dreams (DVD): Ultimate Feel Good Film (1232 words)

Sometimes it's amazing just how engrossed one can become in a film. Fields Of Dreams is a film that I had, until now, never seen all the way through in one sitting. I'm glad I did as it is a film that can be inspirational and also makes the viewer able to put things into perspective in life. Its also a film that generically speaking is something that everyone can relate to terms of what the film is about. Ray Kinsella is a family man who is running a farm in Iowa, when Ray is working the corn fields, he hears a voice telling him "If you build it, he will come" along with a vision of an American baseball field. From this he realises that he has been ...  Read the complete review

Field of Dreams Usually movies with such a straightforward story as that seen in the 1989 movie “Field of Dreams”, provide little more than frivolous entertainment on a wet Sunday afternoon. However, what sets this film apart from its less prosperous cousins is the stylish and sleek way in which its director, Phil Alden Robinson, presents it to the viewers. It never tries to dazzle the audience with an intricate and extravagant plot but instead just leaves the viewer to marvel at its reassuring simplicity. The film surrounds the bizarre exploits of New York born baseball fanatic Ray Kinsella, played by Kevin Costner, who is now living as ...  Read the complete review

If you build it, he will come…… The synopsis of the plot here terrified me. Kevin Costner in a feel good movie about sport. But what I didn't realise when my father made me watch this film, was that I was about to witness what true film making is all about. Not since I saw Star Wars have I felt this good about a film. This is one of the gems that has made me follow my dreams to become a film maker, something that I have wanted to do all my life, and am now almost there. What is it about many of these so called feel-good movies that either attracts us, or in many cases actually pushes us away from the film? That is something that I ...  Read the complete review
