Fifty Dead Men Walking is based upon the true story of an informer who was resposnible for sending away some of the top IRA members during the troubles in Northern Ireland. The man in question is Martin McGartland and he is still in hiding from those who might want to get some revenge. McGartland has survived an attempt on his life when five bullets came in his direction. Jim Sturgess plays McGartland in the film which opens with the cocky seventeen year old wheeling and dealing to make a living andtrying to keep out of trouble with the law in Belfast. There was a black Zimbabwean cricketer called Henry Alonga who, with the support of some of his team mates, wore a black armband in an international game against England in Harare to protest against Robert Mugabas tyranny, a brave gesture indeed, or so it seemed at the time.
