This is a nine-film boxset, available from amazon at the moment for a very reasonable £15 (its usual price is £30). Film noir was a style of thriller that developed in Hollywood in the mid 1940s, and lasted maybe ten years. It represents the first signs of American audiences starting to demand something a bit more adult from their entertainment, or at least something that we'd recognise as adult today.
