Lancelot is a lone man who lives by his sword, he makes his living by fighting for money and he is happy to travel around and have no fixed home. Elsewhere Lady Guinevere of Leonesse has made the decision to marry King Arthur for two reasons, the first being that she knows her land will now be safe and the second is that she does love him in a way. As Guinevere is on her way to meet King Arthur their party is ambushed by the evil Prince Malagant and his henchmen. He is trying to take over all of the land and even Camelot. Luckily for Guinevere Lancelot is in the same woods and he manages to save her and get her back to safety. Whilst he is rescuing her there ... Read the complete review

This is one of those films that I'm not sure of. First Knight is one of the many takes on the tale of King Arthur and his knights, and of course his wife Guinevere. This time, we get director Jerry Zucker at the helm, and he definitely gives us some entertainment and swashbuckling, with Richard Gere and Sean Connery as the two male leads providing some interesting combinations. The plot revolves loosely around the legendary tale of Sir Lancelot's love affair with Guinevere and the trickery they go through as well as the turmoil in attempting to keep it secret from Arthur. All the while, Arthur's reign is threatened by a rogue warlord, Prince Malagant. Richard ... Read the complete review

This is a spoof right? Surely it isn't meant to be taken seriously??? First Knight is YET ANOTHER dull retread of the Arthurian legend which has spawned one single brilliant movie in the form of Excalibur and countless cinematic messes like erm, well like First Knight! Not quite down there in the depths with Merlin The Return(the Rick Mayall version no one but me seems to have seen) this is Hollywood butchering at its very worst. Complete with a largely American accented cast(aside from a sometimes unintelligible Sean Connery) we have a tale of Camelot entirely devoid of Merlin, Morgana, The Holy Grail, Excalibur and so on and instead, one which focuses upon a love ... I was put off seeing this film by the critics. It was declared below the standards of everyone in it and generally not very good. I however believe otherwise. It was a drizzly evening when i set down in front of the television and after discovering that there was nothing on, not evn a good section of QVC, I was coerced by my parents to watch the film I had been actively avoiding since 1995. At first i was wary, because I knew for a fact it was about 2 and a half hours long, but then I figured, what the hey, it's not like I was a brain surgeon who could actually be doing something useful with my evening! First Knight is the story of King Arthur ... Read the complete review

3 stars is what this Arthurian movie gets, which is a shame because it could have been a lot better. The production is high, the sets and vision of Camelot, the Round Table, the action set-pieces and Sean Connery as King Arthur... even Richard Gere might have been ok. And it's not a bad slice of enjoyable entertainment, although not as good as Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. There are some ok battles, including the last one. But fans of the Arthurian legend will be let down by the lack of brilliance it gives to the great amount of movie potential that still lies locked in the tales. There is something missing in this film. We get a ... Read the complete review
