Note: also appears at my film review website, ShaunMunro.co.uk. Thanks! ~~~ Daniel Craig recently took time out from cavorting in revealing swimwear and ousting international terrorists to star in little-known British independent film Flashbacks of a Fool. Starring as egotistical fading film star Joe Scott, Craig's character returns home to England for the funeral of a childhood friend, and is forced to confront the demons of his childhood. Flashbacks of a Fool is certainly a beautifully shot picture - the lush expanses of both the US and UK landscapes have been captured superbly by helmer Baillie Walsh and cinematographer John Mathieson. ... When "Flashbacks of a Fool" was in cinema I had been mildly interested but didn't get around to seeing it so I added it to the good old Love Film list. I'm not the biggest Bond fan in the world but really enjoyed Daniel Craig in "Defiance" and so was looking forward to the film. However, if this review is missing a bit of spark and excitement, well, you'll see why. THE PREMISE Directed and written by Baillie Walsh, "Flashbacks of a Fool" opens with aging British Hollywood star, Joe Scott (Daniel Craig). Living a life of substance abuse but no real substance, Scott's life is a series of meaningless sexual encounters. ... Read the complete review

An English drama set in a little British seaside community. Craig plays the role of Joe, a self obsessed, irritable English Actor, who has reached the pinnacle of his fame in Hollywood. We see the extent of his ego trip with various blown up pictures of himself in his abode. Joe is haunted by his past and despite the masses of money he has accumulated, and his hedonistic lifestyle, he cannot escape it. His teenage experiences have left him unable to form meaningful relationships and so he is detached from feeling anything substantial. We see evidence of this at the beginning with Joe being amidst an orgy. The only time when he get's told what's ... Read the complete review

When Flashbacks of a Fool was released at the cinema I was desperate to go and see it. Why? Mr. Daniel Craig of course!! But by the time I had convinced someone to go and see it with me the cinemas had already stopped playing it. It seemed to me that the film had one of the shortest cinema lives I had seen in a long time. This didnt bode well. It obviously hadnt been a massive box office hit and I was disappointed. SO I had to wait for the film to be released on DVD. I had it on preorder and I when it arrived I made my brother and his girlfriend sit down and watch it with me. The first attempt lasted about 20 minutes. There is a lot of sex within the first 5-10 minutes ... Read the complete review

I recently gave in to my partner and allowed her the privilege of her own film list on my DVD rental account. Now there are two opposing lists; one contains action and poor comedies, the other heartfelt dramas and classic films. There is a worrying trend I found with my partner's films and that is the correlation between the amount of films she has listed and those that star Daniel Craig! It seems that over the past few weeks I have watched several of Mr Craig's films and for the life of me I cannot comprehend why.... At least by watching Craig films I am broadening my film palette, but will 'Flashbacks of a Fool' leave me with a funny taste in my ... Read the complete review
