Advantages: Original and Creative Idea, Four Directors including Tarantino
Disadvantages: Two segments are little bit boring
Four Rooms is an anthology and comedy film released in year 1995. Movie is divided in to four stories that take place in the four rooms of one hotel on New Year evening. The movie was written and directed by Allison Anders, Alexandre Rockwell, Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino. Each one of them written and direct one story of the film. The movie is produced by Lawrence Bender and Combustible Edison composed the music for this movie. The four segments are named as the missing Ingredient, The Wrong Man, The Misbehavers and The man from Hollywood.
Star Cast:
Tim Roth portrays Ted the Bellhop in segment The Missing Ingredient.
Lone Skye portrays Eva in segment The Missing Ingredient.
David Proval plays a role of Sigfried in segment The Wrong Man.
Jennifer Beals portrays Angela in segments The Wrong Man and The Man from Hollywood.
Quentin Tarantino portrays Chester Rush in segment The Man from Hollywood.
Bruce Willis plays a role of Leo in segment The Man from Hollywood.
Plot Summary:
Tell the Bellhop is working in a hotel. He learns that there are some witches in the hotel room and they are soaking the potion. Each one has to put an ingredient into a large pot but one of them failed. The ingredient is semen. Eva seduces and gets to have sex with Ted in order to obtain semen. The witch put the ingredient in a pot and completes the spell.
Somebody from one room called Ted for room service and gives him the wrong room number 404. He arrives in the room. The husband believes that he has an affair with his wife. Wife Angela put him on the gun point and asks him to participate in her fantasy. When Ted escapes another man arrives and same things happen to this man also.
That husband and wife leaves for New Year party leaving behind children and tells Ted to keep eye on them. He is alone in the hotel so he can't stay in the room with children so instead of keeping eye he tells them to watch television. He leaves the room and when he back he smells terrible odor and finds a dead woman.
Director Chester Rush is resided in the penthouse. He called Ted and asks him to deliver sandwich, doughnut etc. Chester's friends encourage them to participate in challenge. If he wins he can take Chester's car but if he fails he will lose his finger. He plays a dangerous game. Now it seems that any of the segments doesn't have perfect ending but it's not true. All four segments are connected to each other. I don't want to ruin the ending be linking all the segments. Some of the characters are repeated in more that one segments. To know how the segments are linked together watch "Four Rooms".
My Views and Perspective:
I am a big fan of Quentin Tarantino after watching his Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. So when I was browsing movies of Tarantino I found this. From the poster it seems that movie is quite different and story takes place in four rooms. I found mix kind of reviews from people. But I can say that this movie is not so bad. This is more entertaining than any one can expect. Movie is very creative and a brush up for mind. You can have a good laugh and it's a very exciting combination of comedy and little bit suspense
Comments on Segments
I found that The Wrong Man is the weakest segment of the movie and the first segment is also not good. In first segment they just shows that the topless witches trying to get semen to complete the ritual I was really not able to understand what's happening in the story and what the writer wants to tell from this segment. But after second half the movie starts delivering quality and repaying. Second half sweeps away the shakiness of first half. The third segment is very funny and some scenes are so ridiculous that I couldn't stop laughing. The ending segment is the masterpiece and the whole credit goes to Tarantino. Overall I can say movie is getting better as segments passes.
Direction
There are very popular talented persons involved in the movie like Anders and Tarantino. I watched this movie just fir Tarantino and he never disappointed me as a director. Tarantino hits a good spot and delivers the best segment of the movie. The direction is vibrant as any other Tarantino's film. He creates amazing section that truly entertains. Anders is known for creating strong roles for women. Although he narrate a story on women but he lost his reputation in the film. The segment by Rodriguez is well directed and fast faced.
Performances
The lead actor is Tim Roth and he delivers excellent performance throughout the movie. He proves himself that he is capable of delivering the best comic performance. As movie is going we truly attached to the character of Tim. I think it's very hard to manage with four segments and directors that have very different tastes. He it very unfortunate that the character of Tim has to last over the night and to ensure that all changes in his humor is apprehensible but finally he ends up with tremendous performance. His different kind of expressions and motions in different segments are worth watching. I also want to throw some light on Tarantino's performance. He plays very small roles in his movie but he is hilarious in the role of Chester.
Conclusion:
This movie isn't bad. The idea of the movie is original and you will rarely find the similar movies. I suggest you not to buy it but you should definitely rent it. As I say I found mixed kind of reviews so may be it can be the case that you will get disappointed by the movie. But fans of Tim and Tarantino can watch this movie for them. This movie contains Nudity so don't watch the movie with children.
Summary: Don't Buy it but rent it
