It's difficult to compare Skinner to other stand-upsthough he is vaguely similiar if alot ruder to Jerry Seinfeld with his observations. The topics Skinner covers including reaching fifty and the stresses that brings. This is quite funny as there are lots of funny tales. However, when Skinner talks about his sex life, which he used to do regularly in his...more

Premium Review Frank Skinner Stand-Up (DVD): FRANK SKINNER STAND-UP (317 words)
by - written on 23/12/09 (Very useful, 14 readings)
Rating:

FRANK SKINNER STAND-UP is the title of Birmingham born English comedian's gig at the Birmingham National Indoor Arena. Skinner is famous for television shows like Fantasy Football and hosting his own chat show. This was his first stand-up tour for ten years and the arena was sold out as it was his hometown gig. Skinner's stand-up routine is very laidback. He talks to the audience like he is in everyday chat. He is not particularly energetic and uses his comic timing for laughs. He banters with the audience occasionally and doesn't put them down to much like some other comedians. There is plenty of swearing and rude words though nothing too offensive or ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Frank does it standing up! (705 words)

I hadn't really heard anything of Frank for a while until shortly before Christmas I saw this DVD while searching for something else on www.amazon.co.uk. The Frank Skinner Stand-Up DVD feaures Frank live at the Birmingham National Indoor Arena (NIA) and this is his first live tour in ten years. I added the DVD to my wish list in the hope that someone would get it for me for Christmas. He also had a new book out called Frank Skinner On the Road which is a follow up to his bestselling autobiography Frank Skinner. I decided to wait for the paperback as although I love to read I do feel that £18.99 is far too expensive for something that I will ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Frank Skinner Stand-Up (DVD): Watchable but not classic Skinner (564 words)
by - written on 23/08/09 (Very useful, 40 readings)
Rating:

After a ten year break from the stand up circuit, Frank Skinner returned to his roots both in a comedy sense, as well as locality, with a performance at Birmingham National Indoor Arena. Frank started off as a stand up with a quick witted, often crude routine, but found more commercial acclaim with his work with David Baddiel on Fantasy Football, which resulted in releasing number one single Three Lions. Later on he had his own chat show and has two best selling books. The DVD itself has a couple of bonus features accompanying the main feature, which was written solely by Frank Skinner. There are ten chapters in the main show: - Live at the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Frank Skinner - Stand Up (230 words)
by - written on 21/07/09 (Very useful, 10 readings)
Rating:

Frank Skinner - Stand Up After a ten year hiatus from doing live stand up, Frank Skinner made his return to live shows in 2007 with a 69 date tour which included three shows at the Birmingham NIA, which is where this DVD was recorded. Back when Skinner used to do stand up on a regular basis, the audience would be treated to an endless amount of jokes about sex and suchlike. This time around, he does the same, although maybe based on this DVD, he isn't quite as good as he was ten years ago. Be that as it may, this is a very good show where he discusses his age (he'd just turned 50), some of the one-night-stand's he had and problems text messages can cause at the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Frank Skinner Stand-Up (DVD): belly hurting fun (247 words)

Despite the fact Frank Skinner is now getting on a bit as he has now turned past the magic 50 number he seems to shwo no signs of calming down with his routines. This DVD proves the point and with his wicked humour he manages to have the audience laughing and yet cringing at the same time and leaves you thinking. Did he really just say that? This DVD comes live from Birmingham and show that I went to see live a few years ago. It was part of a 69 date tour which took him all over the country and stand up is what he is really good at. Yes you may see him writing an artcle in the Times or doing an interview for Radion 5 live these days which maybe more ...  Read the complete review
