Franklyn is a bit of a strange film, as it really does seem to have an awful lot of potential but its ultimately unfulfilled. The film seems to follow three separate strands, the story of a masked man in Meanwhile City who is out to kill a man he suspects killed a young girl, the story of a young man whose fiancé has jilted him and a woman who films her suicide attempts for attention. The idea I believe is that the strands eventually intertwine to make an enthralling ending, unfortunately the strands meet but don't intertwine as the interest levels have long since passed. The film is very good in parts, Ryan Phillipe plays our masked character in ... Read the complete review

I am surprised at the lack of better reviews both on dooyoo, IMBD and lovefilm regarding Franklyn, most people seem to think this as an below average-average film, however what I saw was completley different, I thought this film was more than above average, I thought this was a very well done film, with a great, albeit confusing plot and a brilliant way of showing us the various and alternating realities. The film stars Ryan Phillippe (of Cruel Intentions fame) and Eva Green as the 2 main leading roles, followed closley by Sam Riley and Bernard Hill whom are also both well known actors. On an extraordinarily low budget this film has proven that money isn't ... Read the complete review

On a budget of £6m, it's a massive achievement that Franklyn looks this good, especially with a cast consisting of stars such as Ryan Phillipe and Eva Green. With a masked protagonist (played by Phillipe) that resembles Rorschach from Watchmen, it's not much of a surprise that the film has become mired in obscurity, with most people simply presuming that the advertising is talking about Watchmen. Nevertheless, it's definitely an intriguing film, and well directed by Gerald McMorrow, whose work on this film is his debut work on a feature film. It's an incredibly engimatic film for a large portion of its runtime - fleeting between two parallel realities of ... Read the complete review

I'd never heard of this when Mr Neenaw put it on the other night, describing it as an odd fantasy thing with Ryan Phillippe in it. And to be honest, I'm not surprised it hasn't set the world on fire. This is a 3-star review, which I don't like giving: it looks like you're reviewing something which is just OK, you didn't really like it or loathe it - so why bother? However, with Franklyn it's because I found it to be a mixture of the very good to downright awful which gives me quite a lot to comment on! The movie cuts between several storylines: Eva Green is a rather bonkers art student who expresses her difficult relationship with her mother by filming ... Read the complete review

This wasn't my choice of film, and I probably wouldn't have watched it if I wasn't forced to by my other half. Here's what I thought of it: *THE PLOT* The movie is set in two different cities- one being London, the other in a fictional place called Meanwhile City. In London we follow the lives of: a suicidal art student named Emilia, who is depressed and sad: Milo, a broken hearted young man who is pining for his first love: And Peter, an older man searching desperately for his missing son around the streets of london. Over in Meanwhile city, the story is narrated by a masked vigilante named Preist who is searching for an enemy with intent ... Read the complete review
