Advantages: Heartwarming and funny!
Disadvantages: none
This is such a fun movie to watch, especially on a particular occasion like Mother's Day! Released in 2003, it is based both on the novel by the same name and the original freaky Friday of 1976. I personally believe that this is one of the best teenage comedies ever, even if it is more than suitable for an adult audience alike! What I liked about this particular movie was the realistic ream which was blended with the supernatural; hence developing quite an original dimension and thematic features in the movie.
The plot is simple: A rebellious teenager and her overworked mother are often at their wits' ends with each other. Until the day when strange Asian voodoo make them switch bodies with each other and the two of them are therefore not only trapped in other bodies, but they have to assume each other's lifestyles and responsibilities as well. Basically, the story targets mainly the relationship between mother and daughter. What I personally appreciated in the movie was the humoristic acting of Lindsay Lohan ad Jamie Lee Curtis. When I read the plot synopsis, I was a little bit septic to imagine that a teenager would play the role of an adult and vice-versa. However, I was baffled by the quality of their acting- it most certainly exceeded expectations! Jamie Lee Curtis was outstanding as she mimicked teenage personalities and catchy phrases -it is certainly worth buying/watching this movie just to see such acting! Other great actors include the little brother and the grandfather in Freaky Friday. I can easily say that the practically flawless acting largely contributed towards the film's numerous awards and nominations.
Like I said above, the blend of realism and the supernatural added another dimension to Freaky Friday. The reason why I said that this is quite an appropriate movie to watch on Mother's Day is because of the mother-daughter relationship that is portrayed. This movie is most certainly not the typical movies where mothers and daughters sit together and giggle as they discuss their lifetime wishes and hopes. Quite on the contrary, I can imagine many mothers and daughters alike laughing along to the movie and the quite realistic, quite humorous scenes and dialogue.
DVD Extras include:
* Deleted scene
* Freaky Bloopers
* What I like about you video
* Alternate endings introduced by Director Mark Walers
* Backstage Pass with Lindsay Lohan
* Behind the scene Featurette
Overall, this is a light and endearing comedy which I would highly recommend to watch with your mother or your daughter for some extra bounding time!
Thanks for reading!
