Advantages: Some people might like it
Disadvantages: Not my kind of humour
When I saw the cover of this DVD I recognised the lead actor Tom Green from the Road Trip movie where he had a strange role as narrator and the only main character not to actually takepart in the Road Trip, anyway I thought I would give this film a try however having watched it I can safely say that it is not worth bothering with.
In the film Green plays an unemployed animator called Gord Brodie who lives in his parents basement and shows little sign of actually growing up and accepting any sort of responsibility. Having been rejected when he tried to make it in Hollywood it looks like there is little hope for him however he meets Betty who is played by Marisa Coughlan. In order to impress her he pretends that he works in stocks and shares
however the more he lies the more trouble he gets into as he also has to lie to his parents about why he is suddenly wearing a suit.
The problem with this comedy is that there are a lack of really funny moments in the film, some of the humour is a bit offensive even for me and I'm pretty liberal over most things and I think one of the problems is that maybe Tom Green thinks he is funnier than he really is and no one has yet told him this.
There is a lack of originality in some of the comedy and the plot is pretty thin as well as being quite predictable.
None of the perfomances really stand out except that of Rip Torn who plays his father and is good in the role, Coughlan is pretty nondescript and there is a lack of depth to many of the characters in the film.
For me this is worth a rather generous two stars at best and is not recommended.
Summary: Comedy supposedly

- 03/12/09 Excellent movie - the scene where he 'gets inside the animal' - "didn't expect that to happen" is brilliant. |
