Freddy Vs Jason first hit the rumour mills as early as 1993 when we saw Freddy Krueger's hand rip up from hell and pull Jason Vorhees hockey mask into the ground. Both the Nightmare On Elm Street and Friday The 13th films have saw self-referential sequels since then in the fantastic New Nightmare and the less fantastic space-based Jason X. But with New Line Cinema now owning the rights to both franchises, with 17 films between them, why did it take nearly a decade to pit the two characters together? Well much of that time was spent on putting together a script, and with many drafts being submitted (many of which can be read on the internet now), New Line decided to ... Read the complete review

Freddy Vs Jason brings two of the longest-running horror franchises together for the first time: Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday The 13th. If that doesn't get you excited about this film, there's nothing else in here that will - the idea of those two icons fighting each other is the sole selling point. The opening briefly sets up the story, such as it is - Freddy Krueger, child murderer, is fed up being stuck in hell. The kids of Elm Street have stopped dreaming about him - meaning that he has no way of killing them, damn it. He needs to commit some more killings or he will lose his powers, so he searches through the bowels of hell to find someone able to help - ... Read the complete review

In the red and green corner, weighing in with one genuine movie classic and six sequels of varying credibility and quality, once an original icon of horror now a lampooned cartoon figure associated with the 1980s: Freddy Krueger! In the white and red corner, weighing in with one half-decent send up sequel: Jason Vorhees! This was the moment many slasher fans of the '80s had been waiting for. We didn't think we would have to wait this long. Proposals for the match-up had been around since 1986, but it would take New Line Cinema to eventually buy the Jason character off Paramount Pictures in the early 1990s and then go through what is known as "production hell" ... For years Horror fans had dreamed of a smackdown between the heavyweights of the genre. In one corner would be Jason Vorhees, the hockey masked gore hound who had seen action in many a Friday 13th film. In the other corner was the stuff of dreams, Freddy Kruger. Burned face, razor blade glove and wisecracks at the ready. But for whatever reason the film never came to fruition. Various directors jumped on board and left, various stories were muted but none could ever be settled on. That’s until Bride of Chucky’s Ronny Yu came on board, things started moving and soon bloodshed would be back on the big screen. Freddy Vs Jason doesn’t set out to win any awards, ... Place your bets now. It’s finally here. Fans first got a glimpse of the battle between the two horror titans way back in 1993 with the supposedly the ninth and last instalment of the Friday 13th series, Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday. At the end of the film we saw a very familiar hand reach up and pull Jason down into the fiery pits. Since then fans of horror have been waiting with baited breath for any news on the match made in hell. Scripts were turned down one after the other, shooting dates were cancelled and the project was supposedly abandoned altogether. Then things picked up. In 2001 New Line confirmed that Freddy VS Jason was indeed on the way but only if ... Read the complete review
