Advantages: Funny story, with great chemistry

Disadvantages: Meg Ryan is typecast

French Kiss is the perfect movie to watch if you want to see Meg Ryan in her usual role, with a bit extra to keep your attention.

Meg is, of course, wonderful (if not just a little typecast) as Kate, an American woman living in Canada with her doctor fiancee Charlie (played by Timothy Hutton). Kate's life is just how she wants it- well structured with her future planned. However, Kate's world is thrown into chaos when Charlie visits Paris for a conference, and is swept off his feet by a French femme fatale.

Despite an overwhelming fear of flying, Kate boards a plane intent on rescuing Charlie from the clutches of his mistress. It is during this journey that she meets Luc (Kevin Kline in a fabulous performance). Luc is a petty thief from France, who aspires to settle in the countryside with his own vineyard. However, he intends to buy the land with a stolen necklace, resulting in him being followed by a law enforcement official (Jean Reno) wherever he goes.

To avoid airport security, Luc sneaks the necklace (wrapped around an American vine) into Kate's backpack. Hilarity then ensues with him trying to keep track of Kate throughout the streets of Paris, under the pretense of helping her win Charlie back.

Featuring the backdrop of the wonderful French countryside, French Kiss is a lovely movie that is all too often overlooked. Meg Ryan is her usual cutesy, girl-next-door self, but it is Kevin Kline who really shines in this movie. Not necessarily the first name that springs to mind when discussing rom-coms, Kline plays the part of the French rogue very convincingly, with great chemistry between him and Ryan.

Also not to be missed- Kline's wonderful version of 'La Mer' during the closing credits.

Summary: You'll be longing for your own affair in Paris!
