Friday is an awesome film. I hadn't actually even heard of it, but I saw it in the video shop with Ice Cube on the front and knew it had to be good. And it is. Set in Compton, LA, the film is about a lad called Craig who ain't got no job, so ain't got sh*t to do (its friday by the way). He hangs out with his best mate, Smokey, who is called that because he just smokes weed all day long. The film just watches them sitting on a porch, which doesn't sound terribly exciting, but they watch the world go by and stories come out from what they see. Smokey is in trouble though - he owes the 'hood leader, The Worm (with a perm!), ... Read the complete review

Any film that makes me want to sit and watch it again has to be good in my eyes. I am not a great comedy film watcher but this is one of my all time great comedy films. Stars Ice Cube, who not only makes rap tunes but has starred in other good films too such as his recent film, Three Kings. Playing along side him is Chris Tucker, a brilliant actor when it comes to comedies and he has also appeared in the Fifth Element. Ice plays 'Craig' who has just lost his job and Chris plays 'Smokey' a drug dealing, weed smoking layabout. The film revolves around the two sitting on Craig's front porch smoking weed (marijuana) ... Read the complete review

Ice Cube not content with being a multi-million selling hip-hop artist, as a solo artist and a member of N.W.A the ground breaking Hip-Hop legends, he decided to turn his hand to acting. After the success of such cult legends as Boyz-N-The Hood and Higher Learning, Cube thought that like music he could do it by himself and started working on a project, that would become a huge hit. Cube began writing a story about all the things that could go on in the hood in one day, this day … Friday. It’s Friday morning and Craig Jones (Ice Cube), fresh from being sacked on his day off, doesn’t know yet what his day has in store for him, but its going to be ... Read the complete review

Ice Cube is not a good actor -- in fact, he's a pretty bad actor -- and Friday doesn't contain much of a storyline, either. But it's a testament to the charisma of Chris Tucker as 'Smokey', the loud-mouth marijuana junkie, and John Witherspoon as the over-the-top father that Friday still manages to succeed with its audience. In most places, it's quite a funny Hip-Hop ghetto comedy. Cube stars as Craig, a guy who somehow manages to get fired on his day off from work. Smokey stops by his house, acting as if he is saviour as he presents Craig with a freshly-rolled blunt: "Now I know you don't smoke weed, but I'm gonna get you high today. 'Cause it's Friday, ...
