A review of the fifth film in the prolific series. A New Beginning was produced in 1985 and the region 2 DVD shouldn't cost you more than £5. It's a few years after the events of Friday the 13th part 4. Jason Voorhees is dead and buried, and the world rests easy that the infamous killer is long gone. For Tommy Jarvis, however, it's not as easy as that. Traumatised by the events of part 4, he has spent the time since being treated in a mental hospital and only now is capable of being moved to a less secure hostel, where he and other traumatised young people are gradually rehabilitated into the world. But it looks like the nightmare is about to begin all over ... Read the complete review

Even the titles are a cliche. A New Beginning? Very thought provoking. Jason's back for another round of slaughterhouse mayhem, donning his infamous mask, and perving on teens who are only too happy too drop their clothes at a moments notice. Or is he really? As it happens, Jason appears to be dead at the start, so everybody's just a bit confused by the latest spat of bloodshed. The action has moved away from the campsite of the past, and shifted to a halfway house for troubled teens. Suffice to say, previous survivor Tommy Jarvis is back to battle his deadly adversary, adding something of continuity to the series. Firstly, lets address ... Read the complete review

Friday 13th part 4 saw the end of Jason, hacked to death with a machete in the final scenes by Tommy Jarvis. It was also an unprecendented success at the box office which left paramount pictures in something of a quandry - do they leave the serie dead and buried or do they somehow try to revive it and watch the dollars roll in... ...tough choice! Naturally part 5 came wandering out of Hollywood in 1985, trying to take a somewhat different direction considering our mad killer is meant to be pretty dead and buried. Tommy Jarvis is here again(this time played by a different actor) but in a mental institution, still scarred by the events of th time. The ... Read the complete review

As a fan of horror films, I don't mind admitting that I have a penchant for these. There have been, to date, it seems millions of Friday 13th films. They sort of finished with Jason X, then came back with a Freddy Vs Jason, oh and now we have the remake. It is neverending! What is it: This is the fifth entry in the infamous saga, a delightful slasher film made in 1985. Plot: Jason Vorhees is 'resurrected' and returns to knock off a set of teens at a halfway house in America. Except, is it the Jason we know or is it a copycat killer this time round? Cast: Nobody worth highlighting in here, with the ... Read the complete review

The fifth film follows the story of Tommy Jarvis who, as a child, succeeded where all others had failed. He dispatched the murderous Jason Voorhees. Unfortunately like many of the survivors of the first four films, Jarvis was left severely psychologically damaged. However, despite being haunted by dreams of Jason returning Jarvis makes it to a halfway house. After one of the inmates savagely kills another a series murders begins and once more a familiar hockey masked killer appears to be the culprit... Don't ever trust the subtitle of a Friday the 13th film. What the filmmakers intend rarely has any bearing on reality. The one before this instalment was ... Read the complete review
