With the first low budget film delivering well at the box office, Paramount needed to start milking this cash cow. They hit upon the idea of bringing Jason back as a grown up protagonist. Premium Review Friday The 13th Part VI: Jason Lives (DVD): Jason Lives Apparently (609 words)

I could be here all day reviewing the many entry's in the Friday The 13th saga. Unfortunately, most are so plotless and cheap looking, that it would be a waste of time. Saying that there has been a decent entry of the 11 films might be a stretch on the imagination, however, there have been a couple of entry's worthy of a mention. The sixth entry, Jason Lives, see's the return of Tommy Jarvis, the boy who saw his family killed by the hockey masked killer in an earlier entry. Having escaped from a mental institution, he drags one of his friends along to escavate Jason's body so that he can kill him for good. However, a bolt of lighting revives Jason's ...  Read the complete review

*Warning spoilers on all films set before this one* There is a scene in Bill Condon's excellent fictionalized account of the last days of director James Whale, "Gods and Monsters", where different people watch his film "The Bride of Frankenstein" almost two decades after its releases. Each person or group of people give their own very different opinion on the film. Some deride it as an outdated horror, another person is genuinely horrified, James Whales laughs at the in-jokes and campiness he intentionally inserted, and one more person is just generally fascinated by the true genius that lies behind this genre picture. While "Friday ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Friday The 13th Part VI: Jason Lives (DVD): Carry On Slaughtering (1230 words)

A review of just the film, Friday the 13th part 6 was originally released in 1986. Twenty-three years later, the film can be picked up for less than a fiver online on region 2 DVD. Simply take one redundant horror franchise, where the main villain is clearly very dead. Add a mentally disturbed child who has miraculously grown into a disturbed yet very strapping young man in the space of about two years. Create the most ill-conceived and pointless exercise in convincing said young man that the main villain is dead. Stick in a broken railing and apply a sudden, rather predictable flash of lightning. Sprinkle with a liberal dosage of one-dimensional supporting ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Friday The 13th Part VI: Jason Lives (DVD): The Best Friday 13th Movie For Non-Slasher Fans (589 words)

Jason returns from the grave in the sixth cash-in outing following his absence from part 5. The 6th movie features a new Jason, new director...new cast and new everything else other than concept in the hope to revive a franchise which wore thin a long time ago. Part 5 was smart in not trying to revive a character who was literally dismembered at the end of the forth, but after a fan backlash part 6 could not afford to continue in the same vein. The fans made part 6's stupid premise and have only themselves to blame. Part 6 sees the return of Tommy Jarvis again who seems to make a habit of killing Jason in these movies, freshly released from a pshychiatric ...  Read the complete review
