When browsing through Netflix the other day I decided to have a look at the films that were currently popular on Netflix as I can usually find something that appeals there. I decided to go for a film that I hadn't heard of before - from Prada to Nada as the plot sounded fun and like something I would enjoy.
Mary and Nora are two sisters who live a luxury lifestyle. Their Dad is a wealthy man and they live in a huge masion where they are very comfortable. Despite being sisters the two are very different. Mary is the stereotypical rich girl - she loves shopping, her BMW and living the pampered life. On the other hand, Nora is still in school, she works hard and is keen to be a success in her own right.
Sadly, their father dies. The girls are understandably devestated but little do they know that revelations are about to come to the surface. Firstly, they learn of a brother that their Dad fathered before he had them and secondly, their Dad was actually bankrupt meaning therefore that they have to leave their home with no money and nowhere to go...
The girls were both instantly likeable and I liked the fact that they were different because although this often led to arguments between the siblings it also meant that they worked together to solve their problems.
I liked the plot and felt that it was a little different to most chick flicks as it followed the girls as they tried to make it on their own. They both worked hard to support one another and Nora ended up leaving her education which was a shame but she felt it was more important to help her sister. Mary also worked hard and it was quite surprising how she changed.
I thought the plot flowed well. There was plenty going on and I thought it was a fun and interesting story. The ending was done very well. Although part of it was predictable, most of it wasn't which I found good.
The film is loosely based on Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility. It runs for 1 hour 47 minutes. It is rated a 12. It stars Alexa Vega and Camilla Belle as Mary and Nora respectively.
This was a fun chick flick which I enjoyed. Great for watching with friends or alone, recommended.
Summary: Good chick flick
