Disadvantages: Hated the talking to camera
This is a pretty lame film that I would not recommend, it is supposed to be a thriller but for some reason they saw fit to include the style of one of the actors talking directly to the audience, the character Paul is one of two maiacs who take a family hostage, why the directors decided to use this technique is beyond me as it adds nothing to the film and makes it all a bit of a farce.
Tim Roth and Naomi Watts star as husband and wife George and Ann who are staying at a lakeside residence with their son for a few days rest and relaxation however a knock at the door leads to a seriesof events that puts their lives at risk, the person at the door is a neighbour called Peter, played by Brady Corbet who is looking to borrow some eggs, a little later he returns with his friend Paul played by Michael Pitt and after a confrontation with George they take the family hostage and begin to torture them.
One of the problems with this film is that many of the attempts to build up the tension fail miserably and just turn into rather mundane scenes where not a lot happens. The plot is rather predictable, after all the whole nice family in remote location getting dodgy knock on the door that leads to a night of terror is hardly new, The Strangers springs to mind straight away.
Like a lot of horror films it leaves alot of questions unanswered , sometimes I just think hat this is because the writers have no logical answers i the first place and just throw in these curve balls to confuse the audience.
The acting in this film is pretty flat as each character goes through the various motions of acting in a sub standard thriller and as such it is definately not worth watching.
Next time I wish they would just go to an all inclusive resort and save us from this dross.
Summary: Awful film.
