I was apprehensive about watching this film after I heard bad things about Sandler's last film Bedtime stories. To me Adam Sandler is a genre by himself(Ok,don't get me wrong here but all I mean to say is that his films have hidden meanings beneath the layers of comedy) Directed by Judd Apatow(Knocked Up,40 Year Old Virgin) it tells the ...  Read the complete review

This is a good film and it is well worth seeing I found it to be an enjoyable film with a good plot and some genuinly funny moments in it which is for me all the more surprising because sadly that is not always something I have been able to say about Adam Sandler films in the past as the quality of work he does is rather variable and not ...  Read the complete review

note: also appears in part on Flixster and The Student Room, thanks! Funny People pairs two types of comedian together in a very strange way - Adam Sandler is known for his crude, crass, not-so-smart comedies, whilst Seth Rogen, under the tutelage of Judd Apatow is known for his similarly crude, but ferally clever films such as Knocked ...  Read the complete review

Heading to "Funny People" one 2for1 Wednesday this summer I was hoping to be amused but had concerns that it would be one of those films where all the best bits had already been shown in the adverts. Adam Sandler usually manages to make me laugh even if at times he appeals more to my little brothers than to me and Judd Apatow has been a ...  Read the complete review

I was eagerly anticipating this new Adam Sandler film, and i love Seth Rogan, so was really really excited! And do not get me wrong it is a pretty decent film, with some brilliant one liners in. But, it was not what i expected to be honest, and i think you can tell that Seth Rogan was not as heavily involved in the script as Pineapple express and ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Funny people playing their role! (362 words)
by - written on 30/09/09 (3 readings)
Rating:

Funny people? Well I've never actually found Mr Sandler particularly funny except maybe in 'water boy' which I actually enjoyed very much so! Seth Rogen on the other hand has really grown on me! I was not a fan of knocked up to be honest and as far as it goes I'm not too keen on him as a whole. I did however; begin to like him in 'Pineapple ...  Read the complete review

Express Review on Funny People (DVD)
by - written on 21/09/09
Rating:

I found this latest adam sandler comedy not as funny as it should of been. As a fan of adam sandler films big daddy, zohan i was hoping for another smash hit. George Simmons (sandler) is a famous stand up comedian and performs in comedy films ( they use some of adams early stuff at the start of the film) he falls into depression after finding out he has a rare leukemia condition which only 8% live. while watching old video performances he decides to go back to his roots of stand up comedy. He meets Ira (rogan) a new and upcoming comedian and asks Ira to write a couple of jokes for george to use.

Premium Review Funny Ha Ha (287 words)

This is definately a film that I would recommend as being worth a viewing as I enjoyed it a lot and that is not always something that I have been able to say about a film with Adam Sandler in it. It is based around the stand up comedy circuit and in the film Sandler plays George Simmons a successful film actor and comedian who despie ...  Read the complete review

Last night my friend and I went on yet another trip to the cinema! This time we went to see the film ' Funny People' at our local cinema. We arrived at the cinema ten minutes before the film , paid our £4.20 and went to choose a seat! We were the first ones in the cinema , so we had to choice of about sixty seats ; our local cinema is quite basic ...  Read the complete review

Rating:

'Funny People' is yet another Judd Apatow film which AGAIN stars Seth Rogen and Leslie Mann - but this time the main focus is on Adam Sandler. The story revolves around fictional American comedian George Simmons (Sandler) who finds out he has a terminal illness, and is understandably struggling to create humorous comedy. As such, ...  Read the complete review

George Simmons, stand-up comedian and film actor, is devastated to find that he has a terminal form of leukaemia and is unlikely to survive - devastated because he suddenly realises that although he is rich and successful, he has no real friend in his life and the only woman he really loved left him some years before. Then he meets Ira Wright, an ...  Read the complete review

Please not this is a review about the film itself that I saw at the cinema rather than the DVD & any extra that it may contain. Funny People is brought to you by the same team as the very hilarous "40 Year Old Virgin" & "Knocked Up". However if you except to see something along the same lines, you will be ...  Read the complete review

Wow, a film called 'Funny People' staring Adam Sandler and Seth Rogan, it indeed, must be funny! That is the attitude i had yesterday, whilst en rout to my local cinema with some friends, they too shared the same optimistic opinion. Oh dear, how wrong we were! The film is written and co-produced by Judd Apatow, who is well know for his ...  Read the complete review

Rating:

The latest offering from the Apatow/Rogen stable is Funny People, and with previous credits such as The 40-year old virgin and knocked up this film has a lot to live up to for me. So does Funny People cut it? Well I've seen it and I'm still not really quite sure! The film follows the story of George Simmons (Adam Sandler), stand-up ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Funny People (DVD): Apatow's Finest (343 words)
by - written on 02/09/09 (Very useful, 20 readings)
Rating:

I eagerly look forward to the next Apatow release and aside from the questionable poster pose, Funny People was a huge success in all departments. This is actually only his third movie behind the camera but his confidence in directing wouldn't show that at all. It was pleasing to see Sandler in a much more true-to-life role. His string of mediocre ...  Read the complete review

This is a review of the film, currently playing in the cinema. I was highly sceptical before sitting down to watch this on my weekly Friday trip to the Cinema with my pals. I have a distinct dislike of Seth Rogan and Jonah Hill, and personally, Adam Sandler I find can be a bit hit and miss. Was this simply going to be another cringe ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Funny People (DVD): Sandler, Rogen, Hill: Funny People indeed (1068 words)

When it comes to comedy you seem to have to be overweight with a Jew-fro to get anywhere, as the incredibly talented Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill lead the new world order. Gone are the Frat Pack of Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson, with their sophomoric brand of laughter, and in their place comes the comedy of super director Judd Apatow, a clever ...  Read the complete review
