Bender's Big Score is the first in a series of 4 films that will make up the fifth season of Futurama. Futurama was a show on Fox up until it was cancelled about 5 years ago, this fact is alluded to heavily in this first film.

The basic premise behind Futurama is that one of the main characters Philip J Fry was cryogenically frozen at the end of 1999 at the turn of the millenium (it appears to be accidental, but is later found to have been done on purpose) he then wakes up 1000 years later in New New York. He then goes to work for his great great great etc nephew Hubert J Farnsworth as a delivery boy for an intergalatic delivery firm (ironcially his job in the past was as a pizza delivery boy).

So the film begins with the news that the Box Network execs have all been fired and turned into Torgo's executive powder. There is then a party at which point Hermes's head is severed during a limboing accident (Hermes is the company's accountant). It's at this point we meet Lars who during the story falls in love with Leela and proposes to her. This is one of a few storylines that continue throughout this film. The main story is that of the scammer aliens and how through getting people to sign up to scams via spam emails are able to take control of earth.

It's not as simple as that though as there is also a lot of time travelling going on. Mainly this is done by Bender (the alcoholic robot) who goes back in time using Time Portals which are created by reading a binary code that has been tatooed to Fry's bottom. Bender steals the most valuable items in earth's history and the scammers (who have him under their control) use this money to buy the earth.

Another story follows one of the Fry's that goes back to the past in order to prevent himself being killed in the future. Fry becomes a very caring individual, spends time with his family and eventually gets a job at the aquariam looking after Leelu.

Needless to say everything converges at the end and there is great ending.

You do need to follow it quite closely as if you haven't seen much of the series then a lot of the characters will seem a bit odd, such as the evil Santa, also you won't understand many of the subtle jokes and a lot of the significance of certain things.

In my opinion this is a great film, ok there isn't as many laughs as the series used to provide and I can't see this working as a 4 part series of episodes (as is the plan). However I think it is a really good film and is really well thought out, as it would have to be to make sense of all the time travelling.
