G-Force is the latest Disney film to be released, it is of course a children's film about Secret Agent guinea pigs. It is a film with real people in it, with CGI guinea pigs, hamster, mole, snake, mice.
The film is about 3 secret agent guinea pigs, Darwin, Juarez and Blaster, they are just everyday guinea pigs who have been saved by FBI agent, Ben. Ben has made special equipment to allow him to hear the guinea pigs speak and allow them to understand him. The guinea pigs go on missions which are too dangerous for humans to do, whereas the Special Agent G-Force can get away with it.
As well as Darwin, Juarez and Blaster, there is another member of the team Speckles the mole (Nicholas Cage), he is the computer expert of the team who sits behind his computer cracking codes and deciphering messages.
The G-Force takes a mission from the FBI to stop evil billionaire Leonard Saber from taking over the world with his evil appliances- all of which have a microchip installed programmed to attack at a certain time on a certain day, it's the job of the G- Force to stop this from happening. But when they're shut down by the top FBI agents, deemed ridiculous rodents, they're sentenced to life in a pet shop. Here they meet Hurley the guinea pig, and Bucky the territorial hamster.
When Juarez and Blaster are adopted by an evil child and Speckles is crushed in a waste disposal unit, it's just Darwin left to save the world...oh an Hurley. Darwin plans an escape, and when Hurley decides he wants to come along to, he has no choice but to let him.
Will the G-Force be able to stop Saber from destroying the world!
My Opinion:
I have two guinea pigs, Gordon and Sausage, and this was the main reason I wanted to go and see the film, along with my husband who loves animals, so when it came out we were waiting for the best time to go. When we got the Mirror newspaper last week with a voucher for two for one to go and see the film at the Vue cinema. So me, my husband and my 13-year-old brother went off to the cinema to watch it. The film isn't on for very long, only around 1hr20, but this is the perfect run time for kids as after that they start getting fidgety and bored. Before I saw the film, I thought it was all CGI, and was shocked when there were actual people in the film and it was just the animals which were CGI. The way it is done, it makes the guinea pigs and other animals actually look real but with a "cartoony" kind of look to them.
The storyline is quite funny in a silly way, it's about 3 guinea pigs, so you can't exactly take it seriously! It's one of those great Disney films which is great for both kids and adults, it has the cutesy kids comedy, and then the adults comedy thrown in in parts. It even has a little love story folded into the seams of the film!
G-Force doesn't really have that many "big" actors in it, in fact the only names I really recognised were Nicholas Cage who plays the mole, who to be honest isn't really in the film all that much, and Bill Nighy, who plays the baddy Leonard Saber, I know you're probably reading this thinking I am describing a bad point in the film, but actually it's the complete opposite. I find it is a good thing! When you have a film like this with CGI characters with a very famous persons voice, I tend to see character as the actor, and I can't really like the character as themselves but as a fake face to the wrong voice. So with this film, I can get to know the characters for themselves. I didn't even know Nicholas Cage was in the film until I read it in the credits!
The storyline is average, it's easy to watch, and easy to get into, but it has been done hundreds of times before in a different way, the baddy and the goodies...and the goodies always come out on top. With it been a children's film I expected this more than anything in the film, I expected it to be predictable and done before. And I wasn't wrong, apart from the predictable part, there was a slight twist, which I got right from the start as an adult, but I don't think many of the target audience (children) would have picked up on it, this added a little more excitement to the film than just awww look at the cute guinea pigs.
I recommend this film if you like all the other Disney films like this, i.e. Toy Story, Enchanted, etc. It's a good kids film, not the best I have seen, but a good watch which I would be happy to watch again.
Oh and the Guinea Pigs are so cute!
Summary: A good but not great Disney film.

- 24/08/09 I'm sorry, but I'm not the least bit interested in seeing this - since the premise is totally stupid and unbelievable. I might have been able to accept at least part of it, but the bit with the animals being able to communicate with the humans like that - well, that's just downright unacceptable to me. |
