My next review although is for a film, I am proud to be writing about, its not only based on a true story, but also has a significant impact on my heritage, and moreover important for many Indians all over the world. This review is on the 1982, Academy award winning film "Gandhi", directed by Richard Attenborough and starring the magnificent Ben Kinsely as Mahatma Gandhi. I saw this film as a young boy growing up, my parnets made me watch it one day because they felt it had such an important aspect of history associated with it, being born in London I at the time didn't no much about my heritage and the history of India, although I knew the British occupied it ... Gandhi is one of those films that I've been meaning to watch for a long time, a film labelled as a classic, so I decided to rent the DVD and see what I was missing. The film is directed by Richard Attenborough and starred Ben Kingsley in the role of Gandhi. The film starts by showing Gandhi's death, which is where the film also ends, and that sobering scene was never far from my mind throughout the entire film. After this is the scene of a rather almost arrogant Gandhi demanding that he has a right as a solicitor to sit where he wants on a South African train, before then getting thrown off. That scene alone portrays a man who never intended to ... Read the complete review

'Gandhi' is undeservedly one of the least well-known Oscar-winning films of recent years, picking up nine of the awards in 1982, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor. However, I'll be honest with you, I'd not actually seen it before the recent DVD release of the movie, and I certainly didn't realise how well received the movie had been at the time of its release. Nonetheless, the film is extremely memorable - not only for the quality of the performances, but also for the beautiful cinematography, the quality of the script, and the compelling story. Although the film is over three hours long, it never becomes dull. THE FILM ... Read the complete review

Title: Gandhi Certificate: PG Director: Richard Attenborough Writer: John Briley Stars: Ben Kingsley, Candice Bergen, Edward Fox, John Gielgud, Trevor Howard, John Mills, Martin Sheen, Rohini Hattangandy Runtime: 188 minutes Made: UK/USA/India Richard Attenborough's epic rendering of the life and times of Mahatma Gandhi has certainly received plenty of plaudits, including an Oscar for best film. However, while it certainly is an epic film painted on a broad and beautiful canvas, it is very difficult to engage with it. Ben Kingsley certainly excels as the unassuming hero who leads his countrymen to freedom ... Read the complete review
