I love Garfield, the newspaper strip that is anyway, so much so that I avoided seeing the first film for a long long time, only my dad actually buying it on DVD led to me watching it. It turned out to be an enjoyable little romp, a few liberties were taken but all in all it was a good little family film that was a lot better than I expected. Now a few years down the line Garfield returns in his second big screen outing. Bill Murray is back as the voice of Garfield, as is Breckin Meyer and Jennifer Love Hewitt as the loveably inept Jon, Garfield’s owner, and Liz, his vet girlfriend. How can I go about reviewing a film that was not really intended for my viewing, but for those who can't even get into a PG13 yet? The sequel to the original Garfield movie happened to fall into my possession because my mother got it as a Christmas present. Admittedly, when she borrowed the original film off a friend (who was borrowing it off her grandchild) I did sit down and watch it with her. Garfield created a lot of laughs so when my mum stuck the DVD into the player as something to watch over the Christmas period that should be quite innocent and easy-going I sat down to watch it with her. The fat cat returns. And once again I wasn't exactly blown away. I will start with a warning that applies for both of the movies. The movies are not similar to the printed cartoons. The humor is much more basic and childlike. As an adult if you enjoy the cartoons don't assume you will like the movies. Having said that, as a child's movie, this is great fun and liable to be enjoyed by a great range of age-group, from young kids to mid-teens.
