Advantages: interesting storyline, excellent actors who play intriguing characters
Disadvantages: none
This is a very strange film that for some reason I greatly enjoyed. It is futuristic and highly imaginative film. The story is extremely intriguing and has some great characters that are played by some great actors. The story is very entertaining if you are into sci fi flicks that have content beyond anything you have ever seen.
The story is about a futuristic world that allows wealthy people to choose the genetic traits they would like their offspring to possess. This manufacturing of offspring becomes the new thing creating a race of perfect and highly unimaginative species. However, when a family decided to have a true child without using the genetic engineering technologies that child is ostracized and looked down upon.
The main character of this film is about Vincent Freeman, played by the gorgeous Ethan Hawke, who is one of the minority who's parents chose to have him the old fashioned way without beefing up his genetic makeup through science. Now this is all well and good except that compared to the rest of the world of perfect specimens, Vincent is extremely different. He is shorter, he has poor vision, he is emotional, and has a life expectancy of 30 years. Vincent is determined to journey into space as a Gattaca Corp navigator. In order to fulfill his dream he must pretend to be one of the genetically modified specimens in order to get an in at the corporation he so desperately wants to work for.
In order to do this he enlists the help of a DNA broker and Jerome Morrow, played by Jude Law, who has been confined to a wheel chair for several years of his life. Law sells Vincent his genetic materials and Vincent assumes his new perfect identity.
This movie is very high tech and extremely entertaining. It is great and I highly recommend it.
Summary: Gattaca, Very Intriguing film
